Alrighty folks, maybe you can help me, maybe not.
Due to Hurricane Ivan approaching the parish, we were given new radio's today. Believe they are trunked. I honestly didnt know we had trunked radio's in the system. Here is what i know about them:
Motorola XTS5000 Astro
Programmed as follows:
1- EMER-MED
2- PCOORD
3-B-COORDCAL
4-B-COORDTK1
5-B-COORDTK2
6-REGROUP

The only other info i can find in the radio is:
Site 18
RSSI: 73 (though this number does change)
My ID: 749718

Anyone know how i can find out more about the freq's?
The radio shop has no idea.
Thanks

I would guess that the talk groups are troop B. The talk groups are the ones used by the world when the **** hits the fan.

What will be interesting is just how well the system plays after a major blow. There are not many channels where you are and there are a number of fire and shreiff departments on the system down there. I have talked with some of the troop B and troop C officers. They have said it is sometimes hard to get a talk channel when there is no bad weather.

The other issue is that the stste has taken out some of its microwave and gone to rented data circuits to run the radio system on. If those data circuits go out, then you loose much of the ability of the radio system. It will revert to a local operation only. The multi site connection and simulcast will no longer be available.

The other stupid thing the state did on the system was to build many of the sites at ground level. Not a wise thing to do in Southern Louisiana. We will see just how good the radio equipment and generators are when the water comes up.

The Buras and Slidell sites are one of the few that I know of that have any height to them. The Slidell site will probably go under as it is only about 4 feet above the marsh there by the Interstate.

Keep us posted how the system worked.

Well, since this is my first instance with trunked, i will say this, it blows. the reception is horrible (Port Sulphur, Buras area's) and this is all pre-game....ill let you know how they do tomorrow (if i stay afloat)
