Hi,

I have a 396,Windows XP, service pack 3, and FreeScan. I use the Uniden cable. It seems to log and record just fine but there is no sound on playback. I have unmuted everything I can think of. I have set all the Tape out checkboxes.

I am stuck.

I appreciate all suggestions.

Quick question-
Are you also connecting an audio patch cable between the earphone jack on the top of the scanner, and the "line in" or "microphone" inputs on your pc's sound card? If not, that's why you're getting 'dead air' recordings. There is no audio passed through the programming cable.

You can find cables at Radio Shack, Best Buy, Fry's, or on-line at places like Newegg or Monoprice, among others.

Thanks for the quick reply.

In fact I have no audio patch cable as you described. I will give that a try.

Thanks again.
