The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Please explain LTE functionality in an XL radio. What does it add?

Didn't want to create a new thread on the topic, can the extended back plate on a LTE radio be swapped out with the non-lte backplate if that functionality is not needed? I have one and would rather have a slimmer profile than the huge bump that is useless to me.

Yes, theres regular woofers/backs on ebay that are easy to replace the LTE tumor with. All the new XLs are coming with CCMs but a lot of people dont like the husky size of them and are doing after market removals.

Source? An APX NEXT with all of the services activated is only $300/year per radio so I have a hard time believing Harris can be competitive if they are charging $1000/year.

Regardless unless you are a legit subscriber on a system with all of the backend equipment LTE does you no good.

It would depend on what sort of contract you had with the carrier. It's not regular cell service, it's just IP "IOT" type service, which is usually a couple of bucks a month if you shop around.

And then you have the cost of the backend BeON server/system to make it all go.

That’s got to include BeON, which is really the only way LTE becomes of any use unless you are leveraging mcptt.

As @mmckenna mentioned, the actual sim and cell service is cheap cheap, since it’s not a voice service. It should be less than $10/mo/device to get it in a cell network. The rest of the fees specific to l3h services are something I’m not familiar with.

So how do you get cell phone service for these? Like if I call T-Mobile and say hey, I've got an LTE radio here, how does it work? And who can I talk to or listen to?

You insert the micro SIM from your carrier like you do any other device.
Your radio has to be provisioned with a BeON license and on a system to do anything.
Otherwise, if it has the feature string enabled for it, you can use it as one expensive WiFi hot spot.

Just to be clear, it's not a cell phone and will not work like a cell phone nor allow you to make telephone calls. It simply uses the cellular service to get a data link back to the BeON server and the P25 system core. It's simply voice and radio info sent over the LTE data link.
It'll use the data network connection to also provide a connection for the internal WiFi radio to act as a hot spot, as MTS2000DES suggested.

You'd have a data only SIM. Those are cheap, like $10/mo, depending on contracts.
