I just brought the Radio Shack Pro-200-0514 (pro-25)
I have read the Post as well as the Replys. And I must agree that the Manual is the Worst. I have not done anything yet to the component but open the box~~Take out the Maunal try to understand with no Luck~put the Batteries in.
Tht's It
So if there is any1 with (no Pun intended) Knowledge & Patience 2 Help me from the beginning which would be to Set up and Program the Darn Thing. I would B Ever So Greatful 4 the time spent and the Knowledge Shared. To show/teach me how to use this Scanner :?

Sorry 2 say that the Employees in My Local Radio Shack had :? no clue as to instruct me on how this component works ...
They told me that I would have to go to the Website to read the Manual :?: Which the Manual was inside the box.. :?:

Please help
If U Will

I believe there is a scanner setup and assistance # listed on your receipt that you should be able to call for help.

Your message is a bit tiring to the eye to read, btw.

Go to your state forum on this site. Post your location and request for help. Maybe someone that has local data has already PGM'ed one. Help from people in your area always is best. Good Luck.

I've never heard of a current Pro-25. Are you sure you don't have a Pro-89? Even if it is a Pro-89, this radio hasn't been a current Radio Shack product in at least a year. When did you purchase this?

If you go to the Radio Shack website and enter the part number, you'll see a tutorial on how to use the scanner that's better than the manual. Since this scanner doesn't do trunk tracking, it's really just a matter of hitting PROG, entering a frequency, and then hitting ENTER.

You should clarify which scanner you are referring to. The Pro-25 is RS# 20-106; wheras the number you provided, RS# 20-514, is the Pro-89.

Now were getting somewhere! You definately have a Radio Shack PRO-95 scanner! I've "had" one of these, and they are an excellent scanner. The manual, and programming process can be a little overwhelming, so no need to be appologize.

I'm currently running Unidens right now, which program differently. Perhaps one of the numerous PRO-95 users in the forum will lend a hand. You might want to consider buying an interface cable, and programming software, which will make things a lot easier!

Okay, yes you did answer my question and since you clarified that you have a Pro-95, I will echo others opinions and say, get an interface cable and use Don Starr's free software for the Pro-95. If you can't get a cable right away, still download the software and take a look at it. The way the software is laid out, will help you understand the radio's internal layout and will help you understand how to program it.

You did mention that you live in Colorado. I just want to make sure you understand the Pro-95 is not a digital scanner, so you will not be able to listen to the CO State Patrol or any other digital signals. Since you don't provide a location in CO, we can't really point you in the right direction, but if you go to the DB (see above), click on CO and then choose your county you are on your way.

I did change it (Denver Colorado) will that help?
So R U saying that I purchased a Device that will not allow me to Listen 2 Local Police/Fire etc.. Dispatchers~and B able to hear their response back to the Dispatcher?
If this is true~When I went to RShack the other day I specifically stated I needed that option which I was told that (Would not B A Problem)
BCause that is the difference between the $99.00 non trunking and the $162.00 Trunking Scanner (Is this True?) :?:
I have not touched the power button
As far as listening to activity in my area tonight~Do I have 2 Download This 1st?
http://www.starrsoft.com/freeware/win95/default.asp
If so Will tht B ok win95 while running WinXp Pro/SP2?

No, I think that your Pro-95 will work for the majority of things in the Denver area. I will not pick up anything on the CO State system as that is a Project 25 system (100% digital). Your local public safety appears to be an EDACS standard system that the Pro-95 will handle quite nicely.

No, you don't need the software at all. I was merely suggesting that if you downloaded it, you would get a graphicly presented view of how the radio is programmed, and when you got a cable, it can be used to program the radio. I will tell you that the most common mistake new Pro-95 users make when programming an EDACS system for the first time, is they don't put the frequencies in the correct LCN slot. I see that the primary Pub Safety system there has 24 frequencies and they would be loaded in slots 1 - 24 no matter what bank you put them; in other words if you were putting them in Bank 1, they would start at slot 101, not 100. Good luck.

I have posted this link on several occasions on this site but will do so again. It is a great asset to those trying to learn how to use the Pro 95.

Click on the link and then click on the link that says program EDACS trunking frequencies.

Remember Lou's very important advise here:

That is a great link. I keep forgetting about the online tutorials for RS scanners. Must be getting old, it seems I remember it was just yesterday when.... what was I saying?

The Pro-95 goes for $149 plus tax so your price sounds about right. The cable and Win95 will make it much easier for you to use yous scanner, especially since ther are many Denver area P95 files available at the Yahoo groups mentioned. Win95 works fine with WinXP. The program is Windows for the Pro-95, not literally for Windows 95. :)

If I could ask you a favor, please post in standard English. Your use of numbers for works and some of your abbreviations make it hard to understand some the things you're saying. I'm sure it would all make perfect sense if I was 20 years old but, like many of the people here, I'm just a wee bit past that age. :D

Radio Shack PEO-25 *

I do apologize for the use of letters for words. I find it a little easier to type~I dont know how I should take your comment
I am twice the age you have mentioned.

Thanks again for the patience~first time owning my own scanner.

Let me get started on some of this Great Information that has been Provided.

I would love if I get stuck to be able to come back and ask questions as they arise. Would that be ok?

Or should I gear them to my State Discussion Forum?

Yes it is okay to ask question and make comments; that is what the forums are here for. :D

As to which forum you should use, well common sense dictates that. If it something dealing with CO and not scanners in general, then the state forum is the right answer. If it is something unique about your new Pro-95, then the RS forum (this one) is correct. If it is a question about software programming, there is a forum for that; and forums for just about everything that has to do with radio monitoring, just look through the list and pick the right one. If your question doesn't fit anything, or it has nothing to do with monitoring, then try the RR Tavern. Don't worry, there are enough of us around here who can move things around so that your topic will end up where it belongs. 8)
