Could someone please direct me to a faq or maybe help with how to program this for Newport News/Chesapeake Virginia (specifically police/fire)?

I've tried inputting talk group id's and frequencies but I don't seem to be getting the right channels when I scan.

TIA!

Well the faq would be in the manual and the system you want is located HERE Double check those frequencies and TG ID's with what you have.

Thank you for replying. I've been to that page and tried inputting what I think are the right talkgroup codes.

Do I use the ones in the DEC column? So if I put in talk group codes, I don't need frequencies? It'll just pick up the codes in the area? I think this is where I'm getting confused.

My manual doesn't explain which way is up regarding frequencies and talk groups, they just give you the correct buttons to push.

Thanks again!

I just glanced briefly at the Newport News System and the manual (online) for your 433. You really need to read over the manual (several times) to try to understand how your scanner works (unfortunately, the manual is a piece of work). As I am not familiar with this scanner I can't give you specific advice as to exactly how to program this system.

At a minimum, you need to enter the control frequencies (listed in red) after defining your system as a Motorola type II 800 mhz. Then you can think about entering the talk groups (in decimal).

Ok I think I got it!

I put in the scanner frequencies and ID's on the same channel (I was doing that). I put in every scanner frequency on the N.News page and then put in the talk groups I was interested in.

Now I'm hearing the channels.... I really don't know what I was doing wrong, but your post really cleared it up for me.

And you're right about the manual. Nice of them to tell me I had to enter '0' before entering the frequency.

Thank you!!!!

There are step by step programming instructions and an explanation about trunking on the PRO433 group. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PRO-433_scanners

Connie, Chesapeake is a analog and APCO-25. The good stuff is all digital and you will not be able to listen to any of that on your scanner.

Well just my luck! I get DH a scanner for Christmas and I get the wrong one!

I know a Chesapeake PO and he gave me (I think) an analog frequency (155.000 or something like that).

Thanks for the info.
