Hello. I hope I can explain this in a way that will not confuse anyone. I have the PSR-400. I know how to use the scanner to get to the trunked frequencies. My problem is the confusion of what frequencies to put in if I am supposed in just the control channels or everything.

For example if I want to put in talkgroups in the following here:

1.York Region Trunking System, York, Ontario - Scanner Frequencies Am I just putting in the red frequencies in the order they are shown. What about the black color frequencies?

2. Also for this edacs Enbridge Gas Distribution Trunking System, Various, Ontario - Scanner Frequencies what do I need to input first?

3. For ltr Exhibition Place Trunking System, Toronto, Ontario - Scanner Frequencies It shows to put the frequencies in Channel 1, 5, 19. So does this mean I skip some channels.

4. For motorola hybrid Christie & Walther #2 Trunking System, Ottawa, Ontario - Scanner Frequencies what frequencies do I put in?

I hope I explained myself clearly because before I used the psr-400 scanner, I was using the bct8 as well as the bc898t and I am still confused. I hope someone can explain in simple way for me to understand.

Yes. You're scanner will handle control-channel only scanning. You only need the control channels.

No answer.

It means this.... Assuming you are programming this into Bank 9, then:

channel 901: 463.6125
channel 905: 463.0625
channel 909: 454.1375
channel 913: 461.6625

This applies for any EDACS or LTR system. You don't program anything into x00. You won't ever program anything into #00 for an EDACS or LTR system since there is no LCN 0.

Not sure if you can do CC-Only on a Type I system or not. I think you can. Try it with just the red control channel. If that doesn't work, try it with all.

Do keep in mind that you must program in the proper fleetmap. If you don't and you run in closed mode with only specific talkgroups programmed in, it'll never stop on any. I can't help you with the fleetmap bit. I can do it when I need to, but I can't write out an explanation.

Please read the manually thoroughly, two or three times if need be. It is actually fairly helpful in explaining. Why? Because nobody is going to want to type out step-by-step instructions for programming your scanner if you haven't given appropriate attention to learning how to do it on your own first.

As mentioned above - remember, if it is an EDACS or LTR system, you must program the frequencies into the proper channels in the specific bank, i.e. bank#+LCN

901
905
909
913

And don't try programming a reported EDACS frequency in an #00 channel because it will not be paid attention to at all.

Also -- any time you programming in a new trunked system and you have doubts about whether it is programmed correctly, always set that bank to Open Mode. That way it'll play any audio that it could possibly play on that particular system assuming you have the frequencies, LCNs and other parameters correct.

Good luck!

Hello Mtindor. Happy New Year. Thank you for explaining everything. I put in the York region system and put in only the control channels. My display is this: I am getting a lot of activity on this too!!!!!
pri dly vc+
Id banks 01234
mot: 00080

I entered in the ltr correctly in their own bank and started with 01

I probably won't hear a lot of activity with the other stations until next week. :) :)

You're welcome. The "mot: 00080" in your display simply means that you are hearing:

80 005 A YRP Dist 2 District 2 - Richmond Hill Law Dispatch

Depending on what agency you are actively hearing audio for, the 00080 is going to be different. That is the talkgroup ID.

Id banks 01234 means that you have those talkgroup ID banks turned on. Any talkgroups in those talkgroup ID banks will be monitored if you were in closed mode. But the + indicates you are in open mode, so you currently will hear all talkgroups that are active in your area.

At some point you might want to switch to Closed Mode [to limit what you here, just in case some of the traffic you are hearing is not of importance to you]. Of course, before switching to Closed mode, make sure you have all of the talkgroup IDs that you want to hear programmed into the various ID banks and that you have those banks enabled. If you have them programmed into the talkgroup ID banks but you don't have those banks enabled [and you have the scanner in Closed mode], you won't be hearing what you think you shoudl be hearing.

You likely know this, but don't get confused about ID banks and the frequency banks. The ID banks are different and hold talkgroups for a trunked system.

Thank you. For now I will keep it in open mode because it might be all important to hear and exciting. Yes I know that there is supposed be 10 frequency banks inh my scanner but it only shows 9 and I am aware of the id banks. I did not put any talkgroups in yet because my scanner automatically finds them for me but if I don't hear a lot I will consider putting in the talkgroups and over time I am sure I will try it in closed mode too.

I am like you, apparently, in that I like to hear it all and think it is all important enough to monitor :)
