when i switch on my ar5000 the display shows frequency but after 10 seconds it shows PLL -- ERR
where would you start to check the voltages etc. I have a copy of the service manual but not much
in the way of equipment just a digital test meter, any suggestions anybody?
Thanks

Have you got anywhere fixing the problem? I am guessing PLL is getting out of range/spec, old components will make it drift.

Yes there was a component missing in the power supply and a smd capacitor so I’ve managed to source said components and when I get some spare time I’ll fit them

Glad to hear that, if it is just that. Why would be a component be missing in the power supply section?

Ah, I see, excellent. A bargain if it gets fixed and I hope it does. Please let me know when you have fixed it, just interested.

Just a follow up to this thread we’ll finally today I got my ar5000 working I had to purchase a 12 volt to 30 volt converter and also replace a couple of smd capacitors and one smd inductor it may have taken me a long time but I’m happy I got it working

The 5000 was a fine radio in its day. Glad to hear you got it working. Now pair it up with some good antennas and get busy (heh)

Well done for getting it back into working order. Dont understand why you need a 12-volt to 30V converter though, but as long as it works.
