Hi all,

I noticed that between Plymouth and Northville, there are 6 "Fire Dispatch" talkgroups in the database. Some are labeled as "Paging" and some as "Dispatch" talkgroups. Do I need all the "paging" talkgroups in the scanner or can I just stick with the "Dispatch" channels and still hear everything? I am thinking they page on one talkgroup and then move to another for response? Just trying to keep the clutter down in my scanner system lists. Anyone listen to them that can recommend which ones I should include?

Thanks for any input you may have.

I monitor these regularly so feel free to ask further questions.

It depends on what you do and don't want to hear:

NTFDISP has everything regarding Northville Township FD on it (toneouts & dispatch)
82NCFD has everything regarding Northville City FD on it
82PCFG has everything regarding Plymouth City FD on it
82PTFD is Plymouth Township FD dispatch
82PTFSA is only the toneouts for Plymouth Township FD

Does this help?

Yes, this is exactly what I needed to know. I appreciate you taking the time to sort it out for me.

Also...

for the two city fire departments....
Northville city FD covers both the city of Northville and the city of Plymouth.
Station 1 is in Northville and is heard on 82NCFD and dispatched by Northville
Station 2 is in Plymouth and is heard on 82PCFG and dispatched by Plymouth
both dispatches are referred to as Base 17 dating back to the days when all the FDs were on the same VHF frequency and each dept had its own base number.

This is correct. All paging TG activity is multiselected to the appropriate dispatch TG. All Calls paging is multiselected to both district's dispatch talkgroups. When units are responding to the other city for an all-call, they will switch to the talkgroup corresponding to the city where the incident is.

All paging is also relayed on VHF.

Some of this is somewhat recent changes. City of Northville used to share Northville Twp's NTFDISP for dispatching. The city has moved from the shared talkgroup to their old fireground for dispatch. New firegrounds / admin / training were added when this happened and are shared between both of the City's operations. Additional citywides, and DPW were also created during this time. City common and events have not yet been deployed fleetwide. I assume this will occur when the radios are touched for modification for interop with Oakland County. Whenever that comes online...

No paging on VHF anymore. All the FF's now have Unication pagers which no longer requires a VHF patch/multiselect. All normal single station pages go out over the main dispatch talkgroup (82NCFD or 82PCFG) multiselected with the appropriate paging talkgroup (82PGNFC1 or 82PGNFC2). All calls are multiselected for 82NCFD, 82PCFG, and 82PGNFCA.

They do not all have Unication. Some still use minitors, and there's still a plectron or two out there. Unication G4 have proven to be less than reliable. The VHF system is lower power now and not a part of either PSAP operation.
