I managed to do a little scanning at the Point Pleasant Boat racing show on Sunday and there was some active radio traffic down there. Just wanted to share with everyone what I heard:

157.150 - Manasquan Coast Guard Station (main channel being used)

157.100 - Manasquan Coast Guard (used as a secondary channel yesterday)

156.650 - "race operations" frequency

156.925 - referred to as the "Race Control" frequency

477.025 - minor traffic (Pt. Pleasant Beach Fire/First Aid operations frequency)

I wonder if you had all the marine channels in your scanner or wer e these close call/search hits? For something like a boat race I would dedicate a bank to just marine frequencies because they are active at EVERY boat race. I would also be curious if yhou entered in 156.8000 which is the marine emergency channel.

Yes, Justin. My Uniden does have the service feature to scan just the marine frequencies and close-call a transmission at the same time. All of the marine frequencies listed above were close-called on Point Pleasant Beach (very close to the Manasquan inlet area) while scanning the marine band. The 156.800 (marine emergency frequency) was being used, but not for the boat racing event. They reserved that frequency for marine distress and it was one of the audible frequencies with a strong signal, but not close-called. None of the other marine frequencies were being used other than the ones I posted. I was constantly monitoring the entire marine band area, so I can confirm that. It is possible that some of the ground coordinators were using motorolas (151 MHz band), but I never bothered to check. There was so much action on the marine channels mentioned above, that I didn't bother monitoring anything other than marine and Pt. Pleasant Beach FD.

Yeah, get the Uniden BC92XL. That's the one I use and it works great! In my opinion, I'd rather be able to scan and close-call at the same time than have a scanner with PL capability. For my price range, it was either one or the other.

Well all scanners with PL CAN do all of the things a 92xlt does. Pls you'll eventually need a trunking scanner for Union County anyway!

Boat Race 2008

Well, they were using ALL of the frequencies mentioned above yesterday too! I went down to Pt. Pleasant again yesterday to relax on the beach and monitor their annual Boat Race again. They used all of the same frequencies I mentioned in my last year's posting with one additional frequency that was very active. That frequency was 464.500 (simulcasting on 464.200). This frequency was also one of the "race control" channels and was used by the Coast Guard helicopter that guided the path for the racing boats (identifying themselves as Angel 1, angel 2, etc..). It's possibly they were using 464.500 last year too, however I first heard it used this year. Something to add into the scanner for those who decide to check out the event next year.
