I moved to Poland a few month ago and have a Uniden Home Patrol. Poland fire company seems very busy as there are cars and lights on at the fire hall all hours of the day and night.

I hear them dispatched but they only call in-route and on scene with county dispatcher. Is there another channel or frequency I'm missing?

There was an incident near my house and the firefighters all seem to have hand held radios with a lot of chatter on their radios. Yet I hear nothing on my scanner.

Also sometime they blow the siren and sometime they do not but the tones on the county seem to be the same. sometimes the siren seem to have a longer pattern too. Is Poland dispatcher by another mean other than Herkimer county?

Anybody have any info?

Welcome. Take a look at the database and scroll down to Poland Fire. There are several channels. I can't help with the home patrol setup, but if you can enable them or manually add them, try that.
They may be simplex, meaning radio to radio...so you may need to be close to pick them up.
Here is the Radio Reference database, which is the source of the Home Patrol's database.

Welcome to Poland! I'm going to make a guess here and say that you need to update your Home Patrol. Poland's main frequency (158.940) the PL is 146.2 (which is correct in the database).
When I placed Sand Hill tower site on line last fall I had to switch the PL to 146.2 because we (the fire company) were interfering with another agency out in Western NY. You might still have 151.4 in your scanner.

158.940 - PL146.2 - Sand Hill Repeater - If there is a call you will hear activity on this channel including store-forward of both Herkimer and Oneida County dispatches. This is Poland's Primary frequency.
154.415 - PL118.8 - "TAC 1" is simplex only -- you will only hear if the incident is close by your home. Mostly used for truck company or fire police or stuff like that.
154.385 - PL118.8 - "TAC 2" is simplex and is the same use EXCEPT it can be cross-band to UHF to talk with Town Highway Depts & the School. It is controlled with DTMF tones. The cross band is normally turned off.
154.280 & 154.295 PLs162.2 are fire ground frequencies used to communicate with other fire depts. Both Oneida & Herkimer use these frequencies. They are again simplex.

If you live right in the village I suggest you get an outside antenna because being in a valley you will not hear much with the stock whip antenna. Get a good discone antenna and some decent feed cable - like LMR-400.

Poland Fire has the largest district in NY. 38 miles of NY Route 8, 5 Towns, 2 Counties, 2 Stations, 11 pieces of apparatus.... if you would like to know more... stop in any Wednesday night around 7pm... someone will be around at that time as that is meeting night and drill nights. If I'm there I will be glad to explain the radio system and the fire dept to you.

Happy listening!

Also, make sure you have the Fire-Tac service type turned on for the HomePatrol, otherwise it's not going to scan any of those frequencies.

Thanks John.... Chauffeur was right some of the channels weren't activated. I was able to hear the MVA earlier loud and clear. I will stop by the fire hall in Poland one of these Wednesday nights!
