Does anyone know when the newest edition of Police Call will be available for purchase and where it can be purchased?

Why worry about it? By the time Police Call gets their data, it's out dated. This site is the BEST site on the Internet with the most current and up-to-date radio information available.

I have to agree with FPO703. I gave up on Police Call ages ago in favor of this site and others that have proven to be better maintained resources. However, if you just have to have a paper copy then go for it.

Not only that, BUT they still, to this day, don't include Alaska stuff! What kind of $#^% is that. I can't think of an excuse yet not to include Alaska. Going by the 2000 Census, we have more population than Wyoming and getting close to the same as North and South Dakota and even Montana. Not to mention our size and vast amount of communications which we rely on a lot more that someone in a warm and cozy downtown city.

OK, just needed to get that off my chest! ;)

Although Police Call may not be up to date as this website, it does have a detailed extensive list of services that do not show up on this website. I feel it is a great alternative and can be used effectively in conjunction with this website for detailed information regarding complete public services and their frequencies and licensees information.

What services? If you look deeper, we are constantly updating and adding more and more services, agencies and information at a rapid rate. All we need is more people to supply the information to us and we're good to go.

To answer your question. It is suppose to be out before the end of the year. It is usually purchased at any Radio Shack store. I have Police Call books from 11 years ago. I do have to admit that this web site passed police call about 2 years ago. There's just no way for them to keep up every year. Another words this site is the best. However, I still buy Police Call every year. It's just something I have down for the past 11 years and I rely on this site for up to date info and use Police Call as a past reference.

That's exactly what I mean. This is a great website providing the most current information regarding frequencies and everything related to this great hobby. I definitely agree that it is probably the best source available for information and using this site along with referring to the police call editions keeps the scanning hobby enthusiasts fully informed.

I feel that this website has the advantage of providing current information but lacks many frequencies for services. For instance, Police Call provides frequencies "in detail" for public services and businesses. There are many frequencies such as those that don't appear on this website but appear in Police Call.

I'm here a lot
Must be very soon as Radio Shack has reduced the 2004 editions
from $19.95 to $14.95.

Also included with the book is the "nationwide" CD-ROM .

The book is good hand-in-hand with this site and other local sites that I check regularly. I was on vacation recently and not by having a laptop with me, I was unable to check the frequencies while on the road. The Police Call book proved to be a great (hard copy) resource for me, as well as over the past few years. I use it as a reference guide with all of the other sites and then see what action appears on the scanner. I agree that this site is the best, however, it is limited in what information is sent in and verified. As long as you do your homework, you can be the "first responder" as far as knowing what goes on around you.

CbandGuy,
The reason that many frequencies show up in Police Call and not on this site is because this site is based on actual data that has been confirmed. Police Call is usually just a current list from the FCC Database and many of the liscenses are out of date or are no longer used or even just on paper.

Thanks for the explanation on the Police Call book. I will continue to monitor this website for it's effectiveness and accuracy as you have stated that it provides. This website is truly a great resource for scanner hobbyists. Police Call book research will now become secondary for me and be kept along side this great web site.

with apologies....

my two cents worth: i agree this is the best place to find out almost all of the info i need regading my obsession with scanning... as has been noted, it prevides a look back over the years (which can come in handy trying to tie down earlier uses for a freq that is now in use but not by the original licensee); also, oddly enough when driving in fender deep water on the flooding backroads of kentucky it comes in very handy when trying to narrow down the possible location of a call (i am talking about locations where wireless internet requires an antenna dangling from a ballon thrity of so feet above the roof of the car).

the cd makes a nice rear view mirror decoration as well...

No, Those are all the AOL CDs that you get in the mail. They also make good scare devices for scarecrows if you out them on with the data side out. The birds that try to attack your crops will be blinded by the light.

i give the aol cds to a local high school art teacher who uses them to make mobiles and other items of art.... the left overs become targets (some have gone back to aol with a request to cease their spam!)

I think what Cbandguy was talking about in terms of more frequencies and such might be the beyond police call part. It does cover more in depth for the non-public safety listening such as Malls, theme park big and small, aviation, rail, etc. I know this site is full of the most current info and I don't buy police call anymore because of it but a paper directory thats as current as you can get isn't bad to have. And talking about people sending in info, I sent in oodles of frequencies reguarding aviation from the mid-Tn region from ATC to inflight refuelings and I haven't seen it added. That was months ago. So in my opinion both directories, RR and police call go hand in hand.
