Chatham Kent Police were chasing a minivan through Blenheim and Chatham tonight at 7:30pm. Officers were called to a B&E in progress on Horton Line, near Hwy 401. When they arrived a minivan fled the scene heading toward Blenheim. The suspects lead Police through several side streets before turning northbound on 40 highway. The suspects then entered the Chatham city limits at Creek Rd. and Park Ave. where Police used stop sticks on the vehicle. The suspects continued through Chatham to Grand Ave. and Lacroix Street, where they turned around and headed south on Lacroix. Police finally used the PIT maneuver on the vehicle and stopped them at Lacroix and Tweedsmuir Ave.

The problem with terminating chases too early is that it is sending the message that of you run you will be allowed to get away. It is a tough call to make but sometimes you cant let the same group of guys continue to do B&Es and just run by cutting though a town or populated area.

They actually terminated the pursuit when the suspects left Blenheim due to speed, but they kept an unmarked unit close enough to keep tabs on the suspects. Once they realized they were going to enter Chatham, they resumed the chase and tried the stop sticks.
