An incident involving 3 suspects ongoing this past hour or so currently has I-64 shut down between exits 291 and 296 including the highrise bridge. Initial reports indicate vehicle involved in an abduction incident in Norfolk crashed at exit 296 and two suspects escaped into the woods between I-64 and Military Highway. Reports are 1 Chesapeake Police Officer has been shot, one suspect has been shot, two are at large. SWAT teams from Chesapeake, Norfolk, Virginia Beach are on scene or enroute. VSP tactical troopers are mustering. Additional air resources are enroute.

A news report stated the Chesapeake Police Officer was talking and while actual status and condition is unknown, that appears to be good news (I pray for the health and well being of the officer involved). Have not heard anything on status of suspect reported shot. The news report includes a statement that the incident did in fact start with an abduction incident in Norfolk that involved a pursuit that ended at exit 296 as noted in previous post.

Still 2 suspects at large from reports, one report noted a possible AK-47 in possession of one of the suspects.

Operations on Chesapeake 2 (VSTARS), other voice coordination continues on Chesapeake 1 (VSTARS) and simulcast on 159.135 Channel 10 - VSP has been working in the neighborhood south of I-64, clearing residences, schools, and businesses in the area.

I-64 remains closed between 291 and 296 in both east and west directions.

At 19:06 all VSP units to release traffic in all directions except for route 17 crime scene area. Multiple VSP units have also been released to end their tours of duty. Do not have any news on status of suspects or the 3 Swat Teams involved from the 3 municipalities.

All of the LE agencies did a great job of working together during this incident. Chesapeake PD M/A was an active talkgroup that appeared to simulcast some of PD West's traffic.

Chesapeake seemed to have a hard time finding a workable talkgroup to facilitate all of their units on scene as I heard someone asking about SWAT going to their own talkgroup around 1845 and someone replied that the patrol units were still working the perimiter and did not have access to SWAT talkgroups.

It's easy to sit back and armchair quarterback something but I wonder why they didn't use one PD Tac 1 or 2? Maybe they can't link those with PD MA or something?

But once again, no use of Orion? Orion must only be for use by VBPD and the "feeds"?

Nonetheless, BG's in custody and the GG's will all go home. :)
