Also note at the end of the article it states the new encrypted system is slated to be ready by June...I've been listening to the feed since 2009 and got interested in radio because of it, no complaints here as it's been great. :)

WATERLOO REGION — All Waterloo Regional Police cruisers have had two officers in their vehicles since mid-August.
The issue of officer safety was raised when police officers were having trouble with broadcasts over the service's aging voice radio system.
Some calls couldn't be heard clearly and others were intermittently cutting out.

Mark Egers, president of the Waterloo Regional Police Association called the Ministry of Labour, and an inspector ordered police to implement a contingency plan while repairs to the radio system were done.

"I had had enough. It was unsafe," said Egers, who was getting complaints from officers.
