Thought I would add a reply since I bought a Beltroinics STi Magnum. Running both the STi Magnum and the Whistler 78SE together, the STi is about 1 to 2 seconds faster at alerting and has fewer false alerts. The STi Magnum is far superior to the Whistler 78SE but it costs about $300 more. Main reason I bought the STi Magnum was the fact it is not detectable.

Best windshield mount. BS/RDR Redline. Best installed unit. STiR +. Best "parking sensors" (laser jammers) anti Laser Priority. There are a few others that are very solid units. But with my own testing and hundreds of online reviews. Those are my picks.

Can you elaborate on this? Police can detect radar detectors? I know it's not illigal to have one in many areas, but didn't think a passive device was detectable. Do you perhaps mean in plain sight?

All detectors except the STI Driver, STI Magnum, Escort Redline and STIR Plus can be detected by RDD. Radar Detector Detectors. They are only used in states and provinces where they are illegal. And the detectable detectors can be detected by RDD like Spectre, which has 5 versions I believe. From as far away as 1200 ft. They are mounted on the dash and or windshields of a PC...

Although I don't know if the K40 permanently-mounted unit is a "shielded" model, the results are the same. When you view "Trucker Versus Virginia State Police" on You Tube, you will witness something quite funny, stumped troopers.

Yes, their high-end radar detector detector certainly worked, but where is the unit in question? I don't know how shielded radar detectors stand up against the cop devices, but I think it is well worth the money.

Yes, when I read about RD's being illegal in certain areas of the U.S., I am quite thankful that I live in a state where I can operate one. I don't know how powerful the car insurance lobby is in the states that do have such restrictions, but they have been unsuccessful here.

One day, I hope to save up for a Red Line model. But, I still love my Beltronics Vector 995.

FWIW the Escort 9500ix is my favorite unit. I use it with the smartphone Escort Live app; more users now than in years past gives a lot of info on what's going on me. And I was surprised how well the laser detection worked when we were in WY; not much laser use around here. HTH.
