Hello fellow scannists.

Is there a typical frequency range for the wireless mics police use for their audio/video recording systems in their police cruisers? Also, what is the listening range for those?

There are 8 channels for various types of low power wireless mics
169.445
169.505
170.245
170.305
171.045
171.105
171.845
171.905
But they can also operate anywhere from 174 to 806 MHz on unused TV channels and on the 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz ISM bands.

i can tell you that we wouldnt use any unencrypted systems for recording audio dictation in cars....we would be using secure bluetooth or some other type device...dictation usually has all the meaty details opposed to basic radio info

range would be...well..bluetooth range

Our wireless mics are not encrypted. Range depends. If I have my back to the car with the mic in my front pocket, sometimes all it takes is walking up to a car and it'll cut out. I had a foot chase the other weekend where I could still hear myself 2 blocks away when we caught the guy. 2 blocks is about max.

I plugged these freqencies in my scanner yesterday. On my way to church this morning, the scanner stopped on one of them and I heard a staticy voice say "how are you doing today?" I thought it was a police officer who just came up to a motorist's window, but I realized it was my preacher at church right before service!
