I've been shopping for a new scanner and settled on the Uniden SDS100, although I was pleasantly surprised to see that the RadioReference.Com linked site called policescanners.net didn't try to highball me, but in fact actually chose the highest model, "I would need at this point in time". Of course I always factor for "extra growing room" and "system upgrades" so I don't have to buy another in the near future, but still, it was nice to see.

Isn't that ScannerMaster? When it comes to vendors, they are in the business of selling scanners but in today's world of simulcast there is a limit to what's available that can handle today's systems and simulcast distortion.

Most vendors are going to use the standard script straight from the manufacturer. There are a lot of radios out there available that will fill certain customers needs and are still being sold but again, in today's world to future-proof yourself there really are only a few choices. In some cases, the radios vendors are selling, are pretty obsolete, some radios being sold today by one manufacturer are 15 year old radios that have been rebranded twice but are being sold as "new". Can't really blame the vendors, they are there to make a profit as a business and I think it's a pretty thin margin.

There is a group of reliable, reputable vendors who can be very helpful to those seeking information but you come to radio reference :D where the products have been tested and evaluated, there are plenty of opinions that give you the scoop.

I assume you mean the Whistlers? Rat shack and GRE scanners?

I have 2 of them and a SDS 200. They are not just rebranded from GRE , they also are updated with new features Like DMR and NXDN standard not an extra charge. My SDS 200 is only used on my local P25. My Whistler 1098 hears Analog and DMR better then my SDS200. My Bearcat 75 also does better Analog then the SDS especially on Airband ! What a bargain look at the 125 now as the 75 is discontinued.

They will also update your GRE radio to DMR and added functions. Frankly I find Ez-scan program easer to use in my mind then the Sentinel Uniden uses.

Hi Art how are you? Well I was trying to be diplomatic LOL... GRE was the best scanner company and the Radio Shack scanners they made back when were the best. I still have a slide rule dial tunable radio from RadioShack I got in late 60s that was made by... GRE Japan.

Back in 2007 when GRE was making Radio Shack scanners I got a pro 106. My God what a beautiful machine. 2nd generation digital scanner secondary to my Pro 96 that came out in 2003 made buy GRE that blew the doors off the Uniden bc250d.

At one time I had over half a dozen of these base and mobile radios that just outperformed anything... when they came out with the psr-800 and had the psr900 but didn't release it as China kicked them out due to domestic domain issues that psr-800 was the cat's meow. Loved it oh, I guess that was around 2011.

The radar detector company bought them sight unseen Lock Stock & Barrel and came out with the ws1095 which was the psr900... Don Starr was working with them in some capacity, I got one of the first 1095s and remember calling Whistler to get the proper drivers and spoke to a woman who admitted they knew nothing about the radios and were learning as they go. They just inherited them. I wonder who that could have been. :D

Of course when simulcast came into play and I realized that my GRE Whistler radios were pretty much useless, I moved on. The x36 didn't do that much better but it did do better, but not good enough and that's when my newspaper moved on to RX only Motorola radios.

The reason that I didn't come out and say the obvious was to be respectful, not to go off topic like we are and to not have to have this conversation LOL (y)
