Not sure actually. Possibly escorts, parades, events, etc. A buddy of mine works for Rochester Hills FD, and that's where the pictures were taken.

I'm obviously not sure of this particular department but there are some Fire Services that i've heard of on the east coast and out in Florida that use EMS equipped Harleys to respond to medical emergencies onhighways and such. The rationale is that a team of paramedics on Harleys can weave through traffic much faster than a big ambulance to provide full ALS (Advanced Life Support) care much faster. The bike medics can usually stabilize a pt. while waiting for the transporting unit to arrive.

The bikes are owned and primarily used by Pontiac FD. They are used for parades, special events (ie dream cruise, arts, beats, and eats, etc.....). They are also loaned out to other depts for special events (like the fireworks in rochester hills). I believe they are at a minimum equipped w/ a jump bag to provide immediate assistance until the rest of the units can get through the crowd. Pontiac FD also has several golf carts that are capable of transporting and carry full ALS equipment during these special events. I hope this helps everyone out
