• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I recently installed 2 XTL 5000 W9 consolettes: the consolettes were used to replace 2 Astro Spectra W9 consolettes in the same configuration, utilizing the ACC 2 to operate. Initially, I believed it would simply be ‘plug and play’ provided the radios were programmed correctly. However, it hasn’t worked out that way; the transmitted audio is absolutely hideous.

S101 is configured identically to the old Spectras, as follows:

S101-1: ON
S101-2: NOT USED
S101-3: ON
S101-4: ON
S101-5: OFF
S101-6: ON
S101-7: OFF
S101-8: NOT USED

ACC 2 is configured identically to the old Spectras, as follows:

PIN 1: RX+
PIN 2: AUD_SHLD
PIN 3: TX+
PIN 10: PTT*
PIN 11: TX-
PIN 16: RX-

1. The consolettes are dedicated to one talkgroup each. Both talkgroups are operational.
2. Audio input to each consolette adjusted for loss and set to 0 dB
3. Audio input to each consolette loud and clear at demarc (3ft away).
4. Each consolette receives loud and clear w/ net radio check on assigned talkgroups.
5. The consolettes key, but, the transmitted audio over the net, though somewhat understandable, is unusable: think extreme garble.
6. I had my guys use an XTS 5000 from the same location to see if anything spurious would inject the handheld. The handheld worked fine.

I’m somewhat confident what is wrong/incorrect w/ one consolette is most likely the wrong/incorrect w/ the other, but it’s simply not jumping out at me.

Is there something in the CPS or consolette configuration I may have overlooked?

Is there something missing or needed on the AIBs?

Is it possible/probable it’s not the correct/ correctly configured AIB? The new AIBs have jumpers, whereas the older AIBs do not. But when I look at the schematics, the jumpers don’t appear to be relevant.

Any insight/ suggestions/ recommendations is appreciated.

0 dB is way too high. You should be setting that up for approx -13 dB

No wonder the audio is hideous.
