Hi, I'm pretty new to the air, wanted to see if there was any info on the most popular frequencies in the Morris county & Passaic county area in NJ? I've hit a few repeaters on 2m & 70cm, just wanted to see if there were any other hotspots on these bands?

Both W2LI 2m and 70cm repeaters, as well as the W2NJR linked system are pretty much the most used in your area.

George you can google New York Repeater Directory and it will give pretty much all the good ones around our area. I can help you if you want to shoot me a private message. I look foward to finding you on the bands. If your new welcome to amateur radio! I'm in Essex county so we're not far from each other.

Just out of curiosity what ones have you hit so far? Alpine NJ 442.700 is a real good machine. I think it's about 800 feet up top the Eisenhower tower in Alpine. Every night there's a good crew on that one.

Yep, so many TG police on there and codeplug beggers. I'm going off the grid along with several others with some DMR machines in South Jersey. It will be a nice little network covering all of south Jersey and southeastern PA when it's done.

Good luck with that,BranDMeister perhaps?
My view on codeplugs, each repeater should provide codeplugs for the most popular radios
MD-380,TYT,Motorola 6550 perhaps on their websites so people can enjoy whats there, some people are just totally lost with what groups are on what repeaters.

Probably because it is true, there is a reason for the TAC channels. Switch to them if you are holding a long QSO after making contact on the main talkgroups. For a new person looking to make contacts, especially a contact that may be a long distance away, DMR is the way to go.

I agree on HF, nobody to yell at you there for tying up there time slot. And yes I was on a TAC channel and some schmuck voiced their displeasure for tying up the time slot too long. It was 2 in the freaking morning!

FreeDV on HF is way cool, near DMR voice quality on the HF bands using a sliver of band width. Just another option for communicating long distances using digital.

Well in that case tell the TG police to chill, or find another repeater that wasn't carrying TAC at the moment.
