Hey all,

Was wondering if anybody in the Columbus area can tell me how long is Runway 10R / 28L is going to be closed. It has been closed for the past several days and I wasted a trip the other day to go there to find out it was closed.

Runway 10R / 28L is the long runway (South runway) and is my favorite one watch planes landing and taking off on because it's near the observation area.

Also I was hearing the other day that they are thinking about expanding the airport to 3 or even 4 runways. Anybody with any information on that I would like to hear about if also.

Have a great day

From the NOTAM, that runway will be closed until Oct 21.

A0295/05 (09/004) - RUNWAY CLOSED 10R/28L 06 SEP 11:00 UNTIL 21 OCT 22:00

Also, they will be building a new runway to the south of 10R/28L. It will be identical in length. It will become 10R/28L and the present runway will become 10C/28C.

WOW!!!!

That's a long time for the runway to be closed. I guess I'm not going to back up there for a long time to get some photos at the observtion area.

I guess when they buiild the new runway it wil take out the observation area anyway. I wonder if they will build a new obeservation area ? They may not because observation areas at airports are becoming a thing in the past. Only time will tell.

Thanks for the information. I'll have to find some other stuff to do when I'm in Columbus.

Have a great one

OK now that I am back from LAX.

Correct the south side is closed, which makes great spotting for the north side since everything go to the north then. The "new south, south" runway was in the 20 year master plan put out in 1999 or 2000 don't expect it to happen anytime soon.

The construction going on out on International Gateway is the new employee lot (Green lot currently) It will be moved so the new west crossover taxiway can be added along with a new intersection for International Gateway and Stelzter Road.

Here is the link for the master plan

Oh and by the way, the 1st Cheryl's Cookies in an Airport will be soon in KCMH

Wow..

Lots of great information on whats going on. Looks like things are going to be mixed up for a while.

Anybody know if the observation area will stay open and will they be making a new one if the take the old one out ?

I have lots of great memories from my planespotting trips up there. I remember TWA Airlines jet coming up there just like it was yesterday. Also remember seeing lots of Boeing 727 which are not ot common anymore.

Thanks to all for the great information

No plans for anything on that side of the airport.

Just on the west side of the airport right now and for the next 2 years.

Spotting wise, the garage is almost always open.......
