Port of Los Angeles getting 700Mhz Trunked System

I heard rumbling about this earlier in the year, and now it appears to be indeed true.

The FCC license is a temporary one to "enable testing of new radio equipment" with the Port applying for a permanent license as soon as the FCC finalizes regional 700Mhz band plan.

From what I gather the system will be a mix of voice/data with implementation planned between December 2011 and June 2012.

Sounds like the system is being rolled out with ongoing testing.

Control channel activity was noted on 771.18125 last week.

Voice testing was noted on TG101 today.

Also LA City license WQOY555 on 772.11875 is also part of the Port System being the CC today.

I was down there the other day. Sure has changed. The LB side has the whole new PD center, with tons of cars... and not one, but two mobile command trucks.
