PURPOSE: Under the direct supervision of the foremen, will assist in
the repair, modification, rework, and replacement of defective parts or software to restore system operation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Will perform maintenance on all electronically
controlled systems and subsystems at Sea-Tac International Airport. Will work on a wide variety of systems, such as the Satellite Transit System (computer-based central control and monitoring system), the baggage transference system, Motorola trunked-radio system, as well as the ID Access system.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, OTHER WORK CHARACTERISTICS: Must be
competent with a wide variety of test equipment. Must be able to work both independently and with others in a diverse team environment with little supervision.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Associate's degree from an approved electronic
technical school or equivalent. Minimum five years of recent progressive experience. Experience should include troubleshooting and repair of analog and digital electronics, as well as a wide variety of computers and networks. Extensive computer based knowledge in a variety of Windows applications and operating systems. Must be able to use hand tools needed to modify or fabricate mechanical devices and enclosures used in electronic equipment. A valid Washington State driver's license, or the ability to obtain one, is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Major systems experience as stated above
with the ability to repair down to the component level when necessary.
Experience with radio communications services that includes the support of public safety answering points and first responder personnel.
Experience with trunked simulcast radio system operation, maintenance and system administration to public safety standards. Knowledge of digital land mobile radio systems. Knowledge of digital microwave systems. Knowledge of radio site selection and requirements. Strong computer skills on a wide variety of operating systems/platforms is also preferred.
ENVIRONMENT: Will generally work in a maintenance environment,
including climbing ladders and going into manholes to access various equipment. Will be required, at times, to work outside in all types of inclement weather.
COMMENTS: Normal work schedule will vary. Must be able and willing to
work any assigned shift. All successful applicants will be scheduled for a technical proficiency exam and will be required to demonstrate troubleshooting abilities to the component level. This testing will take place at a location in or near Sea-Tac International Airport. These applicants will be notified by mail (in the near future) of the test date, time, and location. We are unable to accommodate requests or changes to assigned testing dates or times. The position will begin employment as an Electronic Technician, after successful completion of an 8-month shift rotational training, position will be upgraded to the Automated Control Specialist. Must pass the Security Identification Display Areas (SIDA) and Aircraft Operation Area (AOA) training courses.
Must comply with all Port of Seattle and Aviation Maintenance work rules. Must join Local-Union 46 within 30 days of employment. Must report to work wearing protective footwear/safety shoes that meet the specifications of the American National Standard Institute (ANSI). Will be fingerprinted for a criminal history background check with the FBI.
