I have a BCD436 handheld and was wondering if I had an outdoor or portable antenna would that help me with my reception. I don’t know much about antennas but I was thinking along the lines of a discone antenna mounted on a tripod due to the fact that we have HOA rules. I wanted to take the antenna out into my garage or patio, set it up, and listen to the scanner. Any suggestions?

I've been using a Discone for 20 years. It works great. Mine is on a mast on the chimney, though.

The higher you can get it in the air - the better.

I would like to give the tram 1410 (or similar discone) antenna a try. Can some please tell me in layman’s terms exactly what cable and connectors I would need to connect it to my 436Hp? Thanks

Get the shortest one that will work.

The only other things you'll need are the BNC adapter that came with your scanner, and some non-conductive string to hang the antenna from the ceiling, or a piece of antenna mast tubing or rigid electrical conduit if you go with a tripod.
