• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a handful of spare APX batteries, is it a smart idea to keep one or two in my car in the event my battery runs low on my 7000? Not trying to cause a fire or anything

Not an issue during the colder months, but I probably wouldn't leave one in a very hot vehicle during the hotter months. Either way, keep the battery away from any metal that can short them out. Safest place if you really want to be paranoid about it would be in a little bag or plastic case in the trunk out of direct sunlight.

Thanks, I have a small plastic tub where I keep the microphones for my mobiles and a portable XPR charger. Will put them in there.

I don't know if you carry a backpack or bag with you, but I put the next battery in rotation in my bag every day.

+1 on the backpack/bag each day. After years of people storing computers, radios, and spare batteries in vehicles....it depends a lot on the temperature of the vehicles and climate you live in. Louisiana to Mississippi, humidity is a problem. Desert areas you have extreme cold and heat. Even antennas and speaker mic cables start to break down if left in cars for a long time.

I keep a spare apx battery in the center console of my truck. But during the peak hot summer months i move it to my laptop bag which goes into the office during work hours and into home when i am home. Then when summer is over and its 90 degrees or less outside it goes back into my truck. Quarterly (if its not used for that long) i take it inside over a weekend and let it condition on the impress charger to keep it fresh.

thanks, this is what I was leaning towards doing, I know my Li-on camera batteries loose most of the charge when it is below 32, so wanted to keep a spare APX battery, just to have as a backup, mainly during winter.
