Hey guys,any recommendations?
In planning my mobile install, the biggest issue stalling my progress is finding SOLID portable cradles/mounts. A nice pedistal or flex mount would be nice. I have the Gamber Johnson cat, looked through Tessco, browsed Radio Shack, Fry's, Best Buy. I'm starting to go nuts. Cheked Mount-guys, but the part # x-ref takes me right back to the lighter-duty stuff. Any HH stuff I find is more suited toward the micro-mini variety of HAM ht's.
Everything I have found is flimsy, cheap, etc. Seems the issue is that what I have found are carryover products from cell phones. Problem is cells have gotten tiny, thus the need for lightwight mounts. Years ago, I remember Wal Mart sold some flex cradles, which I used for my then-new Uniden BC60 and BC80 (I was a teen then) Those things would hold even a large commercial HH, and they WOULDN'T budge! The jaws were deep, so the cradle actually held the radio past the driveway.
I prefer not to spend any more $ "experimenting". I have a pile of vent mounts, cup holder mounts, suction mounts. Most won't even properly grip my psr500, let alone my Moto stuff.
My next step would be to fabricte some sort of box or console, but I would like to go with the pro-look before I start home brewing.
What are ya'll's experience? Any suggestions?
