• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Ok I’ve got one for you all -

where do you put your portable while in the car ( if it’s not on your belt ) ? I’ve been clipping mine on my visor for years but it always ends up coming loose and flying off into the backseat somewhere. A cup holder is out because if I happen to leave it in the car someone will see it and rip it off.
I have a cup holder in the door that fits my radio perfectly but I’m afraid when I shut the door the force of the door will mess up the radio.

So where do you guys put your portable while in the car ?

We got a new car back in July so I haven't put anything permanent in it. I run my HT's in the cup holder for my bigger Motorola's and my smaller ham radios I have a mount that fits in the cup holder.

Actually that's good for a security standpoint: stuff in the cup holders (especially if the cup holders are between the seats) the radios are a bit more hidden than an obvious install under the dash.

In addition to that I run an amp I can put under the car seat, keeping that hidden as well. Like the old adage says: "What a thief can't see they can't steal."

Clipped to my belt. Or as mentioned, clipped to the seat belt. Nothing like a 'flying' hand held portable when you have to jamm on the brakes. Probably the HT will not stay in the cup holder ether.

I occasionally use a Harris XG-100P in the wifees car with an external antenna and a Harris bluetooth speaker mic. The speaker mic is great because I can stash the radio under a seat and operate the radio remote from the wireless speaker mic.
