We were supposed to have heavy rain here today much needed, but fizzled out. We need rain. Don't mean to sound mad, but does it seem like the meteorologists correctness is below 30% now a days? As a 100 ton USGG licensed Captain we learned weather and another thing nobody knows now, celestial navigation. My god people are getting more simple by the day. All my local TV weather people have to tell us what to wear now. You need to bundle up it is 20 outside, or now shorts and T shirts it's going to be 98. Are we dumbed down that much?
Don’t want to get way OT here, but the weather forecasts are a joke in my opinion. I was watching a local 1 hour news program a few months ago and in the 3 weather segments they gave wildly different chances of rain in each one. The first was 30%, then 70%, then 20%. What the heck am I supposed to do with that????
Yes, we're dumbed down that much. I went through AF tech-school in 1983 for "digital flight simulators", ohms law was taught, and we were all expected to be able to do the math and understand the consequences of changes to any of the variables pretty much immediately. I went to the same basic electronics part of the school for a different job in 1989 "Meteorological and Navigation Aids" (MUTNAV) and the instructors were saying things like, "if the number under the line goes up, the one in front of the equal sign goes down, but if the number above the line goes up,then the number in front of the equal sign goes up also."
Weather went downhill at least in the Air Force when they started using a central computer system for weather forecasting, individuals can still do a good job, but it can be tough without enough time and people.
A funny thing with weather chance of rain percentages is from when I overheard a forecaster officer mildly scolding a forecaster when they had 100% chance of something, apparently 0% and 100% throw for-casting accuracy calculations off, or make them harder to calculate.
The navy is teaching Celestial navigation at the academy I believe, they probably don't get to the point of doing Lunars, but it's still something.
TV weather people are entertainers. They are there to bolster ratings and attract advertisers. I don't put much stock in what they say.

With all the talk of backup power supplies, solar chargers and the like, I figure this Amish DIY video might appeal to some of you wanting to save a few bucks on these over-priced battery boxes.

And my sister-in-law was very happy to have her 2 EcoFlows this past week. They had a planned all day power outage and her TV/cable/internet/computer and small fan stayed up the whole time. Fortunately they have a newer house surrounded by lots of trees, so it stays cooler a lot longer than mine does. Mine gets hot if the power is off for 30 minutes.

An interesting thing (to me at least) with timelines is that the Air Force rates the number of days out before winds could get to 45 MPH (HURCON 1 through 5, (Hurricane condition)).
The reasoning given is that once the wind gets to that point, it's too late to go outside and work on things like lowering antennas, or securing patio furniture or trash cans or anything.
Not even a drop of rain my way, not so much for the deep east Texas people, catastrophic flooding for a large portion of the area. That's why we need to take tropical storms seriously.
I was watching the path of Edouard. Looks like the remnants of it are sitting on East Texas.
From approximately July to October, I watch the National Hurricane Center's forecast page on a daily basis. While we don't get hurricanes in Central Indiana, we occasionally get significant rain from them. And, after the flooding some parts of Indiana got in August, we don't need any more.

I know the weather in Mexico and I don’t even live there.
I expect we may get plenty of rain in central California due to El Nino, but we shall see. We typically get 65 days of rain each year. We can use it, just not all at once.
