Nice. I need to get off my arse and do something similar. I do need a dual handheld holder for my truck. The cup holders aren’t cutting it.

I was thinking along the lines of an "Ammo Case". They are very sturdy, as in nearly indestructible and waterproof. I just need to find one the right size in new condition, so I can add foam inserts and call it good to go.

I tend to use ammo cans for this type of thing as well. Their size means they fit on an old bookshelf in my garage (had to re-enforce it a bit due to weight), but I have lots of electronic parts and even an air compressor in one. As you mentioned, they do need foam, otherwise your gear gets scratched up and destroyed. I know people that have made radio "go kits" with ammo cans as well. I have not gone this route as they would be a bit small for my current mobile radios.
