If by A-Z you mean Arizona, you will need a digital scanner. That limits your choices to the PRO-96, BC296D, BC796D, and soon to be released PRO-2096.

If you're elsewhere, it all depends on what you need as to which is best.

There is no one scanner that does everything.

If A-Z means every possible freq in use.... Hmmmm there isn't one made that can do PS Sat Net, LEGALLY do Telemetry Data Scanning, or certian forms of digital.

For NON digital conventional, and analog trunking Motorola/EDACS- PRO-95, PRO-94, and several of the Unidens.

For LTR and the above, and the added tone capability- PRO-92, BC246T.

For Digital and take away the LTR- PRO-96.
For Digital and LTR BC296D.

This covers the basics for HH Scanners.

Thanks. I also send an e-mail to MONTGOMERY COUNTY FIRE/RESCUE as well, but do not think I will hear from them today [snow outsided - code red]

Ummm.....

I think what Bob is looking for is the actual PS radio itself, rather than a scanner.

Bob, are you by chance planning to volunteer for Montgomery County FD? Is that why you want the radio? I'm just curious why you'd want an actual public safety radio when a scanner is so much simpler to use and easier to obtain. Not to mention the legal ramifications of having an unauthorized radio accidentally transmit on a public safety channel... that's just asking for trouble these days. Unless you NEED one, I'd advise against getting one.

 , I wish & besides the fire rescue will not let you keep it anyway. I just want a good one to listen too with all the 900 MHz on it

1A 2A 3+

+ there MDC [if they come with it].

I DO NOT WANT TO TALK TO ECC OR A FIRE STATION OR UNIT UNLESS THEY CALL ME, DO NOT KNOW IF THEY HAVE THING LIKE CB RADIO WHERE THEY HAVE A GENERAL CHANNEL FOR JUST TALKING TO THE PUBLIC [sorry forgot to turn my caps off]. I had a friend [well co worker] who worked @

STATION 5
RESCUE 2
STATION 18

But he got married & is not with them anymore, & I think he told me when you leave they give you a free scanner [maybe the money to buy one, not the radio because I can see the fire stations having boxes of scanners]

Starting from the top of the post, Motgo's on a digital system, and a compatible radio is going to START at $3500, plus finding someone to program it for you, unless you want to spend all the money for the cables, software, etc.

There's no such thing as a channel that the dispatchers use to talk to the public. It's bad enough with everyone having a cell phone, much less having John Q Citizen with the ability to talk directly to the dispatcher! (I say this as a former dispatcher)

I've never heard of a department giving it's employees money for a radio when the leave!! I find this a little hard to believe. I know that 90% of the guys at work don't care to know what's going on when they're not at work. I guess it's entirely possible they're giving away gift certificates to Scanner Master, but still makes me scratch my head.

Don't hold your breath on a getting a reply to a request for a radio.

I have to agree with Milf and the others ... look into a RS Pro-96, Uniden 296D or 250D, or the forthcoming Uniden 396T for your monitoring enjoyment!

Me too, it does not make since. But this is what he told me, so I do not know how true it is.

Is there a web page I can look @ with the radio or is it on the scanner master web site?

I am not going to hold my breath because I once e-mailed ECC a few years back & got nothing [too busy]/

None of the radios pictured are property of BoxAlarm187.

I am issued a Motorola XTS3000 Model III (full front keypad) for work. The one in the photo is a Model II that I gleaned off the Motorola website.

I also have a slew of other digital and conventional trunking scanners, many of which can be found on those websites....

Are you allowed to show me or are there some private things on it, also does yours have the MDC to it?

Also about box alarms? How do I find out what mine is, the church that is next door is either 5-5 or 5-6 or something? The next time I go walking should I go to the fire house & ask?

Thanks

Chances are if the church next door is a 5-5 then your house is also a 5-5 :)

Thanks, I kind of think that they do it by blocks from the fire house out like 5-5 could cover say the block where the church + the apartment building & the house by us.

Thanks

Ummmm you will really be better off with a scanner ... Unless you are a member of the VFD, and have paid your dues vias training, and are qualified to use an actual radio, your asking for trouble by buying one on the market. If this system is an ASTRO-25.. you can't just monitor the system on a radio.. it will auto affiliate and then be killed by the sys admins. If you are getting one to monitor an regular ASTRO system, unless you are really sure of what your doing with programming it, or have an expert friend program it and set it for TX inhibit, and other features.... you are again asking for trouble. There are no Chit Chat With Joe Public chans/TG's.... FD Comms are for just that- Official FD Comms.

When I was in SC, I purchased my own XTS3000-R Model III and had it programmed for the agency I worked with, with the mutual aid, and interop TG's of course. It cost me $2,500.00 for the radio. Right now it sits as a paperwieght, but I never know when I may find a need for it, or I may have it reprogged to use as a backup radio for the VFD I work for now. When your issued a HT, and or Mobile by an VFD, your not keeping it when you leave them, its not YOUR radio per say, unless they have an option for you to buy it. You may buy your own extra radios, but as stated, these are not for fivolous Chit Chat... Trunking Radios are not fancy CB's.

As has been stated, unathorized communication on a TRS will cause magor headaches. Seems that the members on this site actually should do a lil more reading of the threads as this has been covered time and again. See the plethera of threads in the Trunking Forums.

Yes, FCC + I would have a new home without a scanner :cry: . I just want a simple one & RADIO SHACK says [on there web site] that it is programed with the local fire/rescue & police (900 Mhz) & it has a weather radio built in & a PC hock up [why a PC hock up unless it has the stuff in the CD like;

154.160 7A & so on

& all you do is plug it up & then the information from the cd will go on your scanner, but the instruchions will tell me.].

I just want to liste to the POLICE + FIRE/RESCUE so in when they say go to 7 C or another channel, I can listen in to them. I in no way want to us it for trouble. Also [if allowed] it will come in handy when I am on the road with dad & stepmom so if there is an accident on the road we can go another way. That is all I want it for, just for listenig.

I do not get that fourm, just the state forums @ the admi ones + the scanner ones, also some people [else where on the Internet] say it is best to post to the right topic & since this is about scanners I picked that one :)

If you don't mind my asking and Im not trying to be rude or "flame" but how old are you? I'd say your best bet is a handheld unit like th BC296D or if you want to save some money try finding a used BC250d with the APCO card.
