If both of those links contained any information about Portland going to APCO25 at one time, they do not now.

Maybe someone got confused because APCO was going to hold a rebanding symposium in Portland.

Is portland moving to the APCO digital system? take a look at this http://www.apco911.org/frequency/events.htm

I hope they arnt cause i cant afford a digital scanner!

Also look at this http://www.apcosymposia.org/MS/MS13/page.php?p=290

*chuckles* We can't even collect enough taxes to keep schools open. You think the folks in the People's Republic of the Portland are going to raise taxes to pay for a radio system? I think you have plenty of time, to save for a P25 capable scanner.

Portland will be faced with rebanding on those frequencies between 860 and 869 MHz. Depending on what model of scanner you have, it may or may not scan the system after rebanding. Rebanding will not cost the city any money, paid for by Nextel.

I didnt look *that hard* in the RRDB, but I could not find anything that indicated Portland even had a trunked system up and running ...

They Definitely had a Type II Motorola systems with about 30 frequencies in 1999, when I last visited there. I used a just-acquired, early version Pro-94 and had no problems listening to it. The PD, FD and many other local agencies were on the system at that time.

I got confused...

I didnt know the definition of SYMPOSIUM, but now i do. Its a confrence taking about the rebanding aha, now i understand! Yes, Portland cant afford a p25 system, since they cant even put a tower up near downtown because of the budget.

Yes, Portland has a Motorala II system, and it is now has alot more talkgroups

Yes, Portland is currently looking at building out a Project 25 trunking system beginning (I think) in FY2009. It will likely be a 700MHz/800MHz dual band system, so that they can maintain the existing userbase as the new system builds out.

And actually, Bureau of Emergency Communications is not the correct name of the system either... it's Bureau of General Services, Communications and Networking Division, Radio Section. Bureau of Emergency Communications is the 9-1-1 call-taking facility, which is housed in the same building (but with a different address).
