So I like to listen to PPB on a consitant basis, and I sometimes hear an Officer call over the radio looking for someone with something called an IVIS or IBIS. I have even heard some radio traffic saying that a certain person has an IVIS but is not certified.

What is an IVIS? I assume it's some sort of device, and google search came up inconclusive. Perhaps some one on here knows what I am talking about.

Thanks in advance.

its a background check IBIS
Integrated Background Information System that provides a response from the Department of Health and Family Service and Licensing for caregiver and daycare background checks ETC.

Oh ok, I thought it was something like that. So, I assume that only certain officers have access to that system or is it some kind of standalone device/computer that only certain officers carry in their cars?

Nevermind. I think I found my answer:

IBIS with PPB

It's a mobile fingerprint recognition system.

I can confirm that this is correct. I used to work retail loss prevention and on a couple of occasions, I've arrested Mexican nationals who illegally entered the country and had no ID, so the PPB officer requested a unit with an IBIS to join us to check the fingerprints of the arrested person.

Idolinear is correct, it's their mobile finger print identification system. Only a couple units have them, and sometimes have to go across precinct boundaries to find them.
