I've been running OP25 on West Simulcast this morning but haven't seen it yet...

I just used Unitrunker to monitor the West Simulcast system and it's showing up there

How well does OP25 decode West Simulcast? I've thought about trying OP25, but I have no Linux experience. I've had some success with SDR on Windows, but not sure I want to go down the Linux rabbit hole. The learning curve looks steep, to say the least. I can trunk track West Simulcast OK using Unitrunker and DSD+, but the decode is not that great. I'm hoping they'll eventually develop a Windows version of OP25, but who knows when or if that will ever happen? Maybe I should just get a Linux for Dummies book.

OP25 works great although I have no issues with either Unitrunker or DSD+. OP25 only requires one SDR for both voice/control channel. I just followed Dark-Sky's post #764 in Software Defined Radio>VirtualBox Project - Run OP25 pm Windows 7. I installed it on a spare computer rather than a VirtualBox. May have to try that sometime.

I live in sort of a hole in the West Hills. There's a hill between my home and Council Crest, and another that interferes with Mt Scott. I've always had poor reception of the simulcast Portland systems here, despite using various Yagis in different directions, attenuation, etc. I think that's my issue with DSD+, I'm just not getting a quality signal to it with Unitrunker. I can get an OK decode monitoring a single West Simulcast frequency, like 852.100, if I use SDR# to feed signal to DSD+. But SDR# has tuning controls, like Bandwidth and Order, that help me get the signal tweaked. Unitrunker seems to lack these fine controls, so I think that's my problem. I've messed with the various UT Gain controls, but nothing helped much. I've carefully determined the PPM corrections for my RTL-SDR dongles, so I know that's not the issue. Also tried different levels in VB Cable. Next step is to try to get the Unitrunker plugin for SDR# to work so I can send a better signal to DSD+ 1.101. I'm not keen on using FMP.

So I finally got unitrunker/dsd plus running with my Thumbnet N3 SDR which is an improved version of the RTL sticks. Its parked on the new system, west simulcast which booms here in North Portland.

Which version of DSD+? I couldn't get Unitrunker to play nice with DSD+ 1.101. It did work with an older version (1.074), but that version doesn't decode as well. The optimize PSK command worked pretty well for me with 1.101 just monitoring 852.1 as a conventional channel, but so far I've not been able to trunk track using 1.101. I know I could trunk track using FMP as the tuner, but FMP doesn't interest me. I tried using the Unitrunker plugin for SDR#, hoping I could send the voice signals to DSD+ from SDR#, but I haven't gotten that to work. I think that plugin hasn't been updated for a while.

I've been only tracking the trunk channel on Portland, but I have been using the latest DSDPlus on TriMet and the state radio system OK.

Does the latest release of DSD+ support P25 Phase II? I've only heard Phase II talkgroups on Ore State Radio Project. Maybe there's some Phase I mixed in there I hadn't noticed.

Not yet....but there is some FDMA traffic once in a while. I'm probably going to fire up OP25 to decode it soon.

From a very reliable source I am being told dispatch frequencies should remain available in analog for up to the next five years to accommodate outside agencies that have not upgraded to P25-phase 2.

The same source informed me that the protests last week celebrating the Trump inauguration were handled on an encrypted net.
