Has anyone got any information on frequencies in use around SPA Charleston, particularly the new North Charleston terminal? I was expecting them to use the state trunked system, but there are only a couple entries out in RR. Feels to me like there ought to be more, given the number of folks out there carrying radios.

You are correct about a limited amount of Port Authority traffic being carried on Palmetto 800. I think that's limited to the Port Authority PD and their need for interoperability with surrounding agencies. And I'm pretty sure the SC SPA talkgroups are carried on the Charleston County Simulcast site (1-10) and not on the Charleston County State Simulcast stie (1-9).

For other operations at the ports, try this system: Palmetto TRBO/Capital City TRBO Trunking System, Columbia, South Carolina. Monitor specifically site #5 Mount Pleasant. This is a DMR-based system. Depending on which scanner/receiver/software you're using, scan in a way that unknown talkgroups are heard. I believe SPA Charleston uses talkgroups in the 1400000 range. I don't know this for sure, but I monitored this site when I was in the Charleston area last year and I'm fairly certain that the traffic heard on this site of this system was related to Port operations.

There is a good chance that there are other radio systems operating there as well, likely conventional repeaters and simplex operations, probably on UHF mostly. You'll have to search those out the old fashioned way.

Let us know what you discover.

Brian, are you sure that is the TG range and not RID/UID range? That TG range seems a little high, and just curious.

I'm not positive. I may have added an extra "0" in that last post. I have these records from DSD+ for that system from my last visit there. I can't promise these talkgroups are associated with the Port, but that's what they sounded like to me.
