By any chance is Fire open? It says TDMA Capable but I am too far away to check. My son lives there. Thank you very muchPortsmouth Trunking System, Porstmouth, Virginia

Yes, fire is open according to the RRDB. Pro tip for you: mode "TE" (or "DE") talkgroups are fully encrypted. Mode "T" and "D" talkgroups are clear and therefore can be monitored on the systemBy any chance is Fire open?

Might be coincidence, but after we upgraded the 911 center to VESTA, they flipped the law enforcement to big e. Fire should be clear. I dont normally have the system tuned in, but I will get it going a bit later.Greetings all. I have noticed lately that all I am hearing is dispatch and the occasional unit to unit call/request. No enroute/on scene....etc. The exception is unit to unit during a fire incident. Are the units now using their MDT's to mark out/enroute....etc or are they possibly using partial encryption. I haven't noticed on my 436 but would be surprised. Thanks in advance.

Police is now protected transmissions. Reports from a few listeners regarding fire traffic seem to indicate a change in procedure, resulting in less voice comms.I scan both Fire and police but don’t ever hear police at all
not YET, good chance it could happen in the future from what I've heardHopefully, but not as long as the new Chief is there as this new policy, as I understand it, was to mainly reverse the old chiefs policy. You know how it goes. I'm just grateful they haven't encrypted (which I understand is not yet in the works). Thanks again.

As much as I hate to say this from an insiders perspective I am going to; encryption on fire DOES NOT WORK. Prince George is a perfect example of why, suddenly all interop partners couldn’t listen or talk to the county unless the county created a patch which wasn’t possible as patching between two primary dispatch channels would cause chaos for both systems. With the automatic aid and interoperability agreements with surrounding jurisdictions this usually means that those in agreement have to be able to respond on the cities system which wouldn’t work with encryption implementation, again I’m looking at PG as an example.not YET, good chance it could happen in the future from what I've heard
