UPDATE: Smoke in Warren Grove from controlled burns
STAFFORD — State Forest Fire Services is currently conducting controlled burns in the Warren Grove section of Stafford, police said.
Smoke from the burns is visible from the Garden State Parkway and from Long Beach Island.
The burns are traditionally done several times during late winter and early spring, according to the state Forest Fire Service Web site.
The primary purpose of prescribed burning in New Jersey is to reduce the hazardous accumulations of forest fuels, according to the site.
The service is currently performing 29 control burns over 1,163 acres around the state.
