• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I tried searching on my own but can't find what I'm looking for. Has anyone heard or read if there are any possibilities the FCC will change some laws governing CB usage such as max output power? I'm just trying to get a sense of the "future" of CB. I know a lot of users "Peak and Tune" there units. I'm just curious.

I doubt it, they like the old laws, and it would not matter to change them, 40 channels used plus down below and above also, and channel 6 with the 1 kw stations, and they haven't done much since 1970's to stop it, why no one will pay attention anyhow. The guys they do get have prior warnings or continue to interfere with others so an easy target.
No it will not change, and the CB band will be there 20 years from now.

I doubt you'll ever see a change. FCC has no interest in the hobby bands. The CB community isn't big or cohesive enough to accomplish anything on their own. There also isn't any money to be made off that spectrum, so FCC won't put the work into making changes for nothing.

FCC washed their hands of CB when they switched it to license by rule. As long as the crap stays more or less confined inside the frequency allocation, and users are not causing any interference to someone who might have the clout to complain, they likely not put the effort into enforcement or changing the rules.

If they ever did, it would be nice to see them allow FM. At least that way we could run something useful, like CTCSS or DCS tones to cut out some of the noise and make it useable again.

I haven't seen/heard of any FCC involvement on CB since the mid '70s. It pretty much remains "lawless" as far as enforcement goes, until an extreme case of public service interruption arises. Other than that it is up to the CB community to handle it, & there have been some of that too. The oldtimers have all but given up, moved on, or become freebanders for a little peace. I don't expect much to be done by any federal agency at all until it involves them raking in some type of huge monetary bonus in someway for at least two more years.
