Every morning on the way home from work around 7:30-8 am, I notice that on Frequency 153.905 which is a Tulare County Fire frequency, activity which sounds like Fresno County, possibly probation. Several units log on with mileage and then go en route to different locations such as; Coalinga, Sanger and Fowler, sometimes using the term "self-initiated" and sometimes saying they are on their way to the court. Can someone narrow this down for me because I am a little confused as to why Fire and PD would be using the same frequency when the counties are right next to each other.

Also, since I have your attention. Does anyone have the 10 Code for Tulare County or Visalia PD. It sounds like they use the same one but its not your usual 10 Code. For example; 10-23 arrival, 10-50 Traffic Accident, and 10-10 fight. They also use some other codes such as Check 1, etc.....just curious.

Thanks,

David

Do you have CTCSS / DCS / PL on your scanner?

The database doesn't show the freq being used by any nearby "police" departments.

I have a Pro-96 and dont know if it has the capabilities that you are asking, but if it does, kindly guide me and I will see what I can come up with. Im guessing this is Fresno County Probation, but then again, who else would be going to courts and giving out mileage. Maybe I can catch a unit # for some extra help.

With the pro-96, just push the MODE button while the transmission is being received and it will display the CTCSS tone being broadcast.

Okay so I finally got the CT.....it was 131.8 S. I heard them again this morning, could only hear the unit and not the dispatcher. Again, said they were logging on and switching to another channel, usually 3 or 7. One guy gave the Unit #488 and said that it was "self inititated" and enroute to the Fowler Court. I am assuming that it was Fresno SO, but I didnt hear any of them talk on either of those channels. On FSO Channels 3 and 7, it sounded like Kerman PD and Parlier PD. Anyways, I am just curious, maybe someone can help me figure it out.

Actually, I was the person that looked into this problem. Their jail transport vans (an outside vendor for Fresno County) programmed in a down town jail repeater channel into the vans , which uses the same input frequency (to Tulare County's TLC2 repeater system). Normally the signals being transmitted by the portables in the jail are not heard 75 miles away in Tulare County, but when these vans transmit, the signal is strong enough to key up the TLC2 repeater 75 miles away in Tulare County. The output of TLC2 is this 153.905 Mhz channel you are hearing.

The fix for Tulare County was to stop using the same PL as Fresno County did on one repeater site.

I saw one of those list years ago. I don't know where to get one. I suppose I could ask my contact in the Sheriff's department if they have one. From memory their 10 code list is the same thing as the APCO listing (see the APCO site - it might be there). As far as the "check stuff" from VPD, I'll have to ask my
contact person there to see if they have a listing of their codes.
