WELL here ya freakin go......

from some news agency, i think kotv6 .........The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is asking for the public’s help to locate a vehicle, which may have caused an accident on the Turner Turnpike Tuesday morning. Troopers say the driver of a dump truck which ran off the turnpike at Sapulpa, said a white pickup truck with emergency strobe lights swerved in front of his vehicle causing the accident.

The dump truck driver said he took evasive action to avoid the pickup truck and ended up running off the road and rolling his dump truck. OHP troopers say the white pickup truck left the scene.

perhaps on his way to ryans steakhouse?????

I have been to Ryans more than once for one of the meetings and I have never seen anybody with lights except me. I meet some of them need to get lives probably but I have seen that in nearly every group.

Great, next we'll have balloons with strobes and lightbars and skywarn stickers on them too!
I guess a hot air balloon would be the ultimate storm chasing vehicle...

I realize that I don't have to read every thread here, but what the BLEEP does this have to do with radio? Do we not have anything better to do than sit around and gripe about someone allegedly breaking the law, and trying to bribe police officers into citing someone?

This has NOTHING to do with radio in Oklahoma. You all are just as bad as this whacker. If you want to write tickets, go to Cleet and become a police officer yourself.

I did  No offense, but do you realize that your post is just as useless and off topic as you're accusing everyone else of being? Like you said, no one is forcing you to read or post here.

And at least one of the "whackers" in question purports to represent the amateur radio community to the various emergency services agencies (although no organized group of hams will claim him any more).

He has been known to show up at Ryan's on occasion, too - or at least he used to. Then again, he used to show up at several other club's meetings as well.

Better tag for them.

There is a better tag than the Ham vanity plate. It is available to anyone who just files for the permit with DPS. It will guarantee about 99 percent verbal warning for most basic violations. It will cause police to go on with most basic violations. Only a few troopers know about it, just about no police or sheriff officers know about it. It is also used on some county and city cars. Its official looking and probably will be eventually cancelled. Do some research and you may find it. If you don't know about it, a tag agent can't help you. They may have the form but will not know which one applies. You just about have to get a form from DPS or Tax Commission.
I'm not suggesting it because it can really be abused. But I've seen a few of theme here in OKC and it surprised me to learn all it takes is a filing the right paperwork to get one.
In fact, I got one for my Jeep because I worked at Hertz and they were always harassing me. Village or Nichols Hills would tail me at 2:30A.M. thinking I was a robber gipsy. With that tag, I would get the nice "LCD" hello and a wave. What a change!

The law has changed. You can have a black and white vehicle with lights, but no siren. There is a security company in Oklahoma City called, "Oklahoma City Security." They have black and white crown victorias with light bars. The logo is 99 percent similiar to OKC PD logo. Instead of Oklahoma City Police, it reads, Oklahoma City Security. On the trunk, it reads, "Oklahoma City Patrol." I checked with Sgt Balderama and he said the vehicle laws were laxed several years ago. This bothered me because I used to be a supervisor with Murray Guard in the early 80's. My first security car looked like an OKC PD car. We also had some sheriff looking cars. It was for heightened effect in construction sites and apartment complexes. After the passing of CLEET, it all got banned. We changed to driving plain white vehicles with green and yellow light bars. So, watch out there people, it is legal to drive a black and white. Until the blue light rapists hit again!

If most police don't know about "it" then how can you be so sure "it" will get help you avoid a stop when you're violating the law?

Which one is it?

I wouldn't want it simply for privacy reasons. Anyone can go to the FCC website and find out your name and address. Could be dangerous in road rage situations!

Granted that depending on your state it may not be hard to find someone who has access to the state's registry but putting your call sign on there just makes it too easy.

Its not listed, as I said

Its not listed on the tax commission list of tags. But if you go into a tag office and ask to look through the special tag permits, you will find it. I went in looking for something else and noticed it. I then made some inquiries and found out it is available to anyone who pays the fee. The reason police will let people go is that its just to similar to an official state of Oklahoma plate. Its uncany when you see one. Which is why I believe it will eventually be cancelled. By the way, only 101 total have been issed when I got one. That's way more than the 23 police chaplain tags floating around.

when selling, remove everything

I was a relief dispatcher for Ok. County in the 1980's. When my grandfather passed away my grandmother gave me a 1984 Ford Fairmont. I decided I couldn't drive it without doing something about its boxiness. So I rigged it with some low profile antennas. I also had a tag badge that let me park on Harvey without getting a ticket in downtown OKC.
I finally had it when I saw about 12 of them used in the movie E.T. I thought that it was the end of my dislike for them and it went to being more of a loathe. I was kind of an anti-fed person back then. I decided to sell the box with wheels. I thought I had removed just about everything and drove it into Jackie Cooper on Saturday morning. When the sales manager did the walk-around, he saw the tag badge. Oops, there went the resell value. He quoted something like $600. I wound up putting an ad in the Daily-O and it sold for $1500. Lesson learned.

Oklahoma City has started cracking down in the Asian district on 23rd between Classen and Penn. A lot of Asian youths in the area have been equiping their vehicles with marker light strobes. They mainly park and turn up their stereos with all the strobes flashing. I saw one of them leave the parking lot and hit the road with strobes a blaze. I followed him until OKCPD could send a unit. The officer told me to go on since he saw the vehicle on the street with strobes. I drove to the McDonalds at 23rd and Penn and hear the officer on 158.730 discussing the matter with his Lt. The Lt. read him the section # to charge the guy. I don't see them anymore.

So if I get the jest of what everyone is saying I can only use my strobe light out in the garage where I still have my rotating disco ball hanging from the ceiling?

On a serious note, why can't someone put up a web site where pictures of whacker mobiles can be posted. If I knew how I would. I think it would be a great public service. I just did a search and it looks like the web site address of whackermobile.com hasn't been taken. They also discuss this subject on a lot of other sites.

I just saw our favorite mini van at QT. I happened to notice that he had a radar unit mounted to his front dash. Wonder what that might be for?
