Hi Fed listeners

I live in Libby, Mt. and I'm picking up some traffic on 168.0950. It's some woman talking and I can tell that the frequency is not quite right as the signal is a little fuzzy like it's off frequency some. Don't know if it's coming from northern Idaho or northwest Montana. No call sign yet. Have tried 5 khz up and down but the signal vanishes. Scanning 12.5 khz now but have not heard anything yet. Checked fcc records and found nothing.
Will keep you posted if I get a call sign or whatever. If you know who it is, let me know.

If it is truly fed traffic, the FCC won't any info on it as they don't control the FCC allocated frequencies. That's NTIA territory.

What sort of traffic are you hearing? Just one woman, or more? Formal, chit chat?

If it's an older receiver, it could be an image. Some of the old scanners would show a transmission 21.7mhz off, which would put it around 146.395 (which would likely be an input to 146.995, although that would be an unlikely repeater output).

Hi Grog
Yeah, it could be an image as it would be at 146.4950, will check on it. And it's just one woman talking once in awhile so far. Have not heard anything for awhile though. Makes me wonder though if it was 2 meter ham radio, I would here 2 people talking usually. Will let you know if I find out what it is. my scanner is 21.6 mhz off on images, 10.8 IF

If it were the input of a repeater, you might not hear the other station. Then again, you haven't heard any callsigns wither so I would hope it's not a ham (but you know how those YLs are )

She's back again!

Hi Grog

Just heard her again at 10:11 MDT and it's definitely not a ham. It is a dispatch and I did hear a number call sign; 5 and maybe a 2 but it was fuzzy. Recording it now to see if I can catch it. She's talking to someone but can not hear them, they might be on another frequency or they are out of range. it was the dispatcher's number I heard. Maybe I'll get a station or repeater call sign.

168.0950 Not a federal frequency

Ok, I got a recording of the woman talking and I think it's F.E.C. ; Flathead Electric Coop Dispatch. I have their frequencies in my scanner unless I'm missing some. I heard her say that the person; lineman ? pulled flathead 339, which I assume is a power pole? It could be an repeater input frequency but I'm wondering that.

P.S. edited the recording in audicity to clear it up some.

My Bearcat scanners will receive a signal at around 10-12 MHz below or above a true frq at times. If I was there I would check their licensed frqs to see if one of them is the actual frq your scanner hears at 168.095 MHz.
