I have recently started to record traffic on 121.5 and recently picked a communication between to aircraft and would like to know if any of the callsigns sound familiar.

Eagle Flight 526 was calling on 121.5 looking for Getaway 116. Are these military aircraft? I have the recording if you would like to hear it.

Nope. Eagle Flight is American Eagle Airlines . Getaway is USA 3000 Airlines.

I have heard many commercial aircraft calling on 121.5 (which is supposed to be reserved for emergencies) and, on occasion, having someone answer and telling them they're on the wrong frequency. Not so uncommon; you would think pilots would be more careful, but sometimes they're clearly not. 73s Mike

I believe you will find there is no restriction on checking to see if your transmitter still works on 121.5. It is listed only as the VHF Guard Frequency for emergencies. No penalty mentioned for short non-emergency transmissions there.

I hear the smaller airplanes using it all the time around our airport to get the other guys attention and make sure they see them too.
