I'm VERY new to scanning and this Website, so sorry if I'm not doing this right.

I sent the following in as a new Tgrp in the Austintown Public Safety trunk.

"The following TalkGrp is being picked up by my wildcard scan of this trunk system. It is not currently listed in your database.
53616 Austintown Fire Dept TAC (assume it's TAC from the conversation)
Frequencies that show up during transmission are
854.7625
858.1125
857.0875
They ARE listed in your db, just the talkgroup isn't."

Is anyone else picking this up? It's been very active today (105 hits since this morning). I'm pretty sure it AFD from the station numbers they're talking about.

David,

Thanks for posting here. It's much better if others in the area [and i know there are others] can listen along with you so that collectively you all can decide upon what the activity is on the talkgroups and thus can provide an accurate description for eventual submission into the DB.

Since we do not add unconfirmed data to the DB these days, it needs to be identified first.

From what you say it sounds like 53616 is definitely an Austintown FD talkgroup. Keep listening to that and the other new one you found (53488) and hopefully you and others can pinpoint their use.

I haven't picked up that talk group yet. I know the Austintown School busses use the trunked system too. I'll punch in the numbers and listen for it though.

Update

Also getting 2 other new ones, both sound like AFD.

53488
53648

Both are infrequent, but clear as a bell. 23 hits on 53616 since last night.

At around 9:50 am i heard a dispatcher announce that someone has a pickup at AMS and Frank Ohl.. Both local schools.. so it could be the local school busses.

I heard that too before I left. I'm pretty sure that's Lane EMS. They have a transport service that shuttles people around. They have a Tgrp on this trunk, I thought that message was on their Tgrp, but I'm not positive.

I'm pretty consistently hearing bus traffic on 53616 now and other school (in the buildings it sounds like) on 53648.

Austintown radio has been having some problems lately. They may be switching talk groups around in order to have working radios.

AUSTINTOWN

Dominion East Ohio has offered the township access to its privately owned water tower so that the fire department’s backup radio system
has proper coverage.

The trustees will vote in special session at noon Friday to approve a contract between the township and Dominion that will allow
the fire department to place a radio antenna on a water tower that sits just behind the fire station on state Route 46, said Trustee Jim
Davis.

Fire Chief Andy Frost Jr. said the department is operating on the backup highband radios while the 800-MHz frequency system is rebanded. This means the frequencies will be moved to reduce the chance of interference between public safety services and cellular services. The antenna for the high-band system currently is on a tower by the police station, only 80 feet in the air.

“When the trucks get to certain outskirts, they’re unable to communicate to dispatch,” he said. Frost said the antenna will be 180 feet in the air, which will give the fire department the coverage it needs. Davis said the tower’s location, and Dominion’s willingness to pay for heating and cooling costs, make the deal an easy one for the township. The antenna equipment will be housed at the base of the water tower with the water-tower controls. Austintown will be responsible only for the purchase and installation of the equipment — about $3,200. “They’ve seen the negotiations we were having and that we kept hitting these dead ends, and they said they wanted to do it as a good-faith community effort,” Davis said.

The township previously discussed placing the antenna on a tower in the city of Canfield, but Frost said a study showed that the frequency would interfere with the Canfield Police Department’s frequency. They also discussed using the Youngstown-owned water tower on Kirk Road, but Mayor Jay Williams previously said it wasn’t possible due to security concerns. Frost said he expects the antenna to be installed in the next two to three weeks.
