I am almost positive this question has to be in the forum somewhere but I could not find it. I am a Nubie. Recently hooked up my Uniden Bearcat 355N to a homemade copper J Pole Antenna mounted outside on rooftop. I am utilizing standard TV RG6 75 OHM Coax. The run of the Coax is about 55 ft. My reception of all county frequencies is excellent. I am picking up signals from over 20 miles away very well also.

Problem. About every 5 seconds there is brief, pause or hick-up in the signal reception. Almost like the individuals transmitting are pulling off the button every 5 seconds. Otherwise everything is clear.

Is this a problem associated with my cheap coax cable that is causing signal loss, or something else? Any suggestions. If it is a cable issue, which is recommended?

Thanks! I am fairly handy in the area of building things, hooking hardware up, etc. I dread if I have to move into digital. I am not very good when it comes to having to downloading software updates and loading to a system, such as a scanner. I get the impression that this is what is necessary if you upgrade to a digital scanner. Am I wrong in assuming this?
