I already have the Charmeck system loaded with Road Crew TG's. However, who maintains 485, 85, I-77?
Anyone have frequency information on what to monitor?

Second question,
I have Duke Energy programmed in my scanner. Not much traffic, so it's hard to tell if they should be programmed as a Type I or Type II. Anyone know?

The interstates are handled by the state DOT. I believe Charlotte DOT is responsible for the overpasses along the interstate route, unless that structure is part of a state highway.

Charlotte is a part of Division 10 ... along with Union Co., Stanly Co. and (I think ?) Cabarrus County.

Going by the RR information, that would make 47.14 their division-wide channel.

Many moons ago (prior to 1996, when I started dating my logs), I logged Charlotte dispatch during a winter snow using 47.38, with trucks on 45.72 MHz.

Keep in mind there are two yards in Mecklenberg County - I think. One is over in the Coulwood area, and I believe there is a second yard at I-485 and Hwy 74 in Matthews.

Sorry to be so vague about the information. I haven't listened to NC DOT in a long time.

BTW - DOT has a new procedure in place for snow removal on I-77 north of I-85. They now have to stop and pick up another DOT employee to ride in the passenger's seat before they can plow the HOV lanes

For those of you listening to "south of the border" traffic, SC DNR officers and vehicles were pressed into service along I-77 in the Upstate during last winter's worst driving weather days. The area DNR high band repeater channels were busy throughout the night, and officers regularly updated each other and Columbia regarding road conditions from Fairfield County to the NC state line.

I had to make that comment in honor of our new HOV lanes, just north of uptown Charlotte, on I-77. They opened Thursday?, and I believe they are the first HOV lanes in North Carolina.

Reportedly, the first three vehicles to use the lanes were a hearse (with a body in the back), a pregnant woman from Huntersville, and a Charlotte Transit bus with no passengers !.

Of course, all the traffic congestion that the road improvements are supposed to ease will still sit in the two right-hand lanes.

Ya killin' me Multer!! :p Did you have to take comedy classes to work for the Red Cross....or does the time on the road just give you time to make these observations?

Comedy isn't part of the training program, but it helps sometimes to ease the tension and fears some donors have - particularly people donating for the first time.

I've had donors pass out when taking their temperature, or when doing a finger-stick to draw a blood sample to check hematacrit (iron level).

I've had perfectly healthy people register blood pressure readings of 220+ / 110+ ... all because of "white coat syndrome."

And a 16-gauge needle looks like a harpoon to some, when compared to the small needles used to draw blood tubes in a doctor's office.

In general, people in the health care field often develop a morbid sense of humor. It helps you deal with those situations when our donors have a negative reaction to the donation, such as throwing up, loss of blatter control or tetny / spasms with loss of consciousness. I find a little humor and a lot of compassion go a long way in helping the donor through those occasions.

Hmm might have been an off color ref to rectal thermometers?????

Anyway- Also of note down in the Low Country of SC during the icy/snowy times around Moncks Corner down through North Charleston, and the rare ice event in Charleston itself.. both the old DOT Lo Band and the Palmetto 800 are hopping.... especially the traveller's assistance patrols (SHEP).... Now if we only had the money in MS to get those......

I don't think there was ever any consideration of using THAT kind of thermometer for our blood donors.

Considering that we check their blood pressure and pulse while taking their temperature, I think those results would be a little too high if we were taking temperature checks by that method.

Sorry we got off-topic. I guess that happens when the thread is about snow plows, and we're forecasted for several more days of 70-degree weather.

We'll pay for this warm weather and the DOT freqs will be active again with them throwing salt everywhere.

In my area near Fayetteville, the DOT trucks were using any of the 45 - 47.xx MHz freqs they wanted trying to talk to each other during their triple overtime work during the day after Christmas ice storm. They were even transmitting on the flag holder's channel.

Thats understandable,.... When the nets are that busy, any chan that they can use will be used. Its a nightmare in MS when the winter man come rolling in.... The state Lo bands for DOT, and all the local conventional goes insane as this state is basically shut down from I-20 Northwards. And Lord help us if a winter storm slips up out of the Gulf.... thats when the entire state gets nailed. The way the weather has been yo yoing.... its setting up for one of those once every ten year Gulf Winter Storms before its all over. Good for those of us that only see snow once every few years,.. bad for the roadways.

DOT instituted another new procedure yesterday ...

During the summer months, DOT vehicles cannot exceed 25 MHz on the sections of I-77 that cross Lake Norman.

This new procedure will make it safer for DOT employees driving on those sections of I-77 ... while taking photos and gawking at the young women on the boats in the water.

Question for the forum - If you take a photo of one of these topless (or more) women, and the picture comes out looking fantastic, is it still considered an "over-exposure?"

They must have been showing off on the Iredell side of the Lake coves yesterday, because I was working in Davidson, and saw nothing from the 30 mm going south

Traffic was backed up almost 20 miles each way approaching Lake Norman, though, and it wasn't all holiday traffic.

(Sorry to get off topic)
