I have a BC296D and am monitoring Ohios statewide MARCS system.

This is a huge system with 100's of IDs. I cant fit all the IDs into that bank.

This will become even more of an issue as later systems (local PD's and fire) move to the statewide system.

Is there any way to fit more than 100 talkgroup IDs into one bank?

Is there any way I can use some of the space for talkgroup ID's in banks that are currently being used to scan conventional channels?

Any help would be appreciated

You do know that you will not hear all of those talk groups dont you? There really is no sense at all in putting every MARCS TG in your scanner.

Why wont I hear them, because they are not being used, or because there are some scanning inefficiencies with putting that many talkgroups in the system

I would say that it's time to sit down and decide to which talkgroups do you want to really pay attention? Even if your MARCS system uses every talkgroup, it becomes cumbersome trying to listen to everything (I know, my local system in Anne Arundel Md. is this way). In my case, I really don't want to hear the animal patrol, building inspectors, college campuses,....well, you get the idea.

The other option is to use software that does not depend on using a scan list; IDTracker is a great way to go, and it's free. Of course, you still need to limit your scanning somewhat when you're not connected to a PC

You will only hear the talkgroups that have been selected by the users on MARCS that are affiliated with the site in your area. The system isn't designed to carry every bit of traffic around the state on every tower. If it did, it would take a lot more frequencies on the towers.

If you really wanted more than 100 ID's, you could enter the same system into a second bank, then you would have room for 200 ID's. But like others have said, you can only listen to so much before it becomes a chore to get complete conversations on every talkgroup.

Currently I have priorities set for my TGs.

The thing about the MARCS talkgroups is they are there and most, you are right, arent used regularly.

I use my scanner for mobile monitoring. 95% of my scanning is done on the road.

But the one time that weird county health dept talkgroup is used, Id like to know it. If I have 'NEW' pop up, I dont know who it was and have to remember the 4 digit ID number.

I have MARCS divided across my scanner in 4 banks, N/NE/NW ohio, SE ohio, Central Ohio, and SW ohio, just like the state sets the system up.

So I have room for 400 total ID's which still doesnt include everything I might want to listen to, especially in the N/NE/NW region.

Does the Pro 96 allow for more talkgroup ID's per bank? or still just 100?

150 ID's per bank, five banks of 30 ID's each.

Even in open mode you still won't hear all the traffic in the state. If a DNR unit isn't affiliated with the tower you are monitoring, you won't hear any DNR traffic.
