Possibly a stupid scanner ? in the GTA

I live in one of the worst areas of Toronto for scanning. I am in a slight ravine in downtown toronto, right next to a chocolate factory on the west and south sides.

I can only get the Toronto tower on fleetnet and the only activity outside of MTO I can get are the P. Credit and Downsview t/g's.

I take the same radio to Rexdale. There on the T.O. tower I get more talkgroups, Whitby is a good example.


Why is this? I figure that the radio is rec'ving transmissions from the tower (like a repeater). Why would I get more and distant transmissions from t/g's further away? :?: :?:

On a side note, I am moving soon to the mid part of the city and there I can probably get the King City tower and perhaps Miss as well as Grimsby.

Any ideas?

i've noticed when i worked in hogs hollow that our portables on lake shore elecronics went all fuzzy and we were always 10-1. same with my cell phone (telus) always cut out. i say get a ginormous antenna

I'm here just south of uxbridge and i can get alot of stuff from TPS on just the stock antenna of my bc250d. Sometimes I can snag a few peel tgs. the oDots come in loud in clear from orillia and such.

I'm moving to the core at the begining of next year so i'll be missing YRP but they are all geeks and use their computers most of the time haha.

I think I didnt explain myself and situation well. I get the Toronto tower at homevery well. Full signal. I get very few digital t/g's. Port Credit and Downsview.


In Rexdale where the King City tower is stronger than the Toronto one I still get, (only on the Toronto tower) more t/g's. I never get Whitby at my home in the west end but in Rexdale I get it often on the Toronto tower.


I dont get it.

May I recomened you go to Radio wold ad ask for an antena with a n fm trap to obtain a higher gain n to your radio . Mirror scan very comical! :evil:

I moved anyways and can recieve the following towers: Toronto 5/5
King City 2-3/5, Miss 1-2/5 & Grimsby 1-2/5.
