hey all, i`m starting this thread sorta in resonse to another post on the thread "firmware updates are out now" (i think that`s the right title, correct me if i got it wrong) mainly `cause i want to find out if anyone else is have the same issues with P25 decoding after doing the ver. 3 updates on the BCD396T/`996T. So far i`ve found that setting the "adjust P25 level" option to "default" seems to fix the issue (for the time being). Mabey if enough people report this issue (and some others that i`ve seen, not sure about others), the folks at Uniden will listen and give the update a tweak and fix this for good. Thanks! N9NRA

Hey no problem, i wanted to see if i couldn`t just mabey get some of the right folks to see this issue, and i figured it would just clog up other threads, also, this gives folks on here a chance to see just who else is having this issue (and others too) from the ver. 3 update. As i`ve said before (not to belabor the point), i think Uniden sort of goofed a bit, i`m almost calling this what i call "Mircosofting", which refers to the (sometimes hasty) practice of pushing some item or service on users before the bugs are worked out, or the users of said item/service can get or use it. Again, IMHO Uniden should at least offer a tweak to fix this. The workaround does work after a fasion, P25 audio almost sounds like the ver. 2 audio did, however they need a tweak for this IMHO. i tried the settings suggested on the other thread ("new firmware updates out now", P25 level setting, Manual, level 8, P25 wait time, 700ms). That got me audio and decode that was nearly like ver. 2 was, so for now i`ll see how that shakes out. N9NRA

Before you do anything else....take the backup you should have made before the firmware upgrade and re-apply that backup.

Or at the very least...presuming you programmed the radio via software, take your last configuration from the software and re-install it on the radio.

I say this because there may be settings that didn't default properly and a programming reload seems to fix that. Or did with earlier firmware updates.

I'm testing V3 again. I wanted to capture some video and audio so UPMan or anyone else can tell me a setting to try. I have attached a video of the local Military fire department on the 380-400 P25 system. Let me know what you think. When you listen, it sounds garbled. With V2 in AUTO, it was crisp and clear. Maybe you guys can make since of the lower numbers.

Note: This was a good V3 transmission compared to all the others.

I reprogrammed my p25 system (Illinois SP) and in the same spot on my desk with default settings like with the v2 I'm getting nothing but garble, dropouts. Wish I'd have waited now.

Upgraded to V3...

Montreal FD 800mhz trunked P25 simulcast

Had to put it in manual mode as the decode level was all over the place (constantly move around from 5 to 14) and the audio cuts out and is garbled half the time.

It becomes listenable with manual settings: level 8, P25 wait time 500ms

The backlight when using CC DND has a bug. If you set the backlight to infinite, it stay on like it always did. When you activace CC, the backlight will NOT stay on. After 20 seconds or so it shuts off. This is happening when no CC hits.

This problem with the backlight turning is happening on all systems - edacs, 3600, 9600, conventional.

There is another bug with V3 on 9600 systems if you hold on a user programmed TG - this is for Starcom-21. I haven't had time yet to sit down and see exactly what it's doing, but weird stuff while I was at work was going on.

P-25 on Starcom-21 is great sounding - no issues

So far, V3 has been a disappointment here, but I know these problems can be fixed, as they were not there in V2.

v3

The auto was great on a 4 way digital voice mot ii conversation until at one point it started varying quite a bit from the 10-11 when the current speaker was about midway between the two site towers. auto made it easier to find the right setting for the manual application. auto seems to be working okay for p25millair this a.m. not a whole lot of digital voice out here, though. maybe more in boston this weekend.

backlight was goofy for awhile in CC DND, but couldn't reproduce the issues with consistency.

I will wait

I have not updated my 996 yet because I have no problems with V2 at all. No motorboating everything is load and clear,no audio dissimialarity between Analog and Digital(always right on in volume, nothing to high or to low.)While yes once in awhile and I mean once in awhile I will get a grabbled Digital transmission it happens very little. The only reason I am thinking about V3 update is because of the ESK feature, that's it. As for now I am happy with V2...

To fix the errors go to you setting in that trunking system the go to system ops and on the p25 set it to defalt

1.program system
2. System Name??
3.edit system ops

Much better reception on 800 motorola systems, I'm hearing a system in Lawton over 70 miles away now with 2 bars on my 996. I was barely able to hear the control channel in the day time before.

Aircraft traffic is much better as well I can hear Ft. Worth controllers loud and clear now. nothing before.

Hoping to go to OKC this weekend and see what the ESK update has done to the simulcast.

Thanks again for a great product!

Jim
