163.700 NAC:169

This was a helicopter doing surveillance. Don't know if this was the repeater input or they were working direct. I only heard the air unit.

Yeah, I have confirmed direct mobile traffic on this frequency with NAC 293 in my area. It is a analog BP repeater output some 80 miles south of me.

Other cities have indicated NAC 301 as CBP.

The 25 cities project or federal wide area interop uses 653 as NAC.

Thanks much for replying Phil. Sorry for the long wait in replying back. Packing to move takes so much time, never knew we accumulated so much CRAP! I live in Ohio, NE area, near all the amish!
So that should tell ya we kinda live back in the 1900's comparitively speaking. Alot of the locals still use analog, but I'm still looking to get a digital scanner and have my eye on the GRE PSR-600.

KC

Hi kc8flq, and welcome. Where are you at? Many agencies have gone digital or will be soon. You will not hear much in the near future on analog. USSS, IRS, ATF, TSA, USMS, USCG, DSS, USPS, and maybe more I am forgetting are all digital nationwide now. No analog to speak of. Others like FBI (half and half in most areas), USC (CBP), INS, BP, ICE, DEA, NPS, USFS, VA, FPS etc are in the transision in parts of the country. Some areas have gone full P25 digital on one or more of these agencies. Many state systems are digital, and even some local agencies now. My local college security even went P25 digital! This is the time to upgrade or get left out.

The NAC people talk about is the Network Access Code. It is a PL (CTCSS) or DPL (DCS) for the digital P25 world. We are all searching these out and taking notes on who uses what, and where. It helps to identify who you are picking up. Many digital coms are encrypted  and you can't tell who it is unless you read a well know NAC code. NAC codes can be read even when encrypted (unlike analog DES encryption), so you can get a good idea of who you are hearing on a frequency even though you can't hear what they are saying. It is a new world, and I think more fun for searchers as things change.

No problem, KC. Yes, moving does suck and I too have much more CRAP than I relize. I hope I never have to move again!

Well some things are changing here in FL. First, my main ops FBI A3 wide area P25 channel went silant for a couple of weeks now. I went searching and did not find anything like it. I did pick up a new NAC 167 encrypted repeater on 170.9125 (S3 to S4). And a mystery freq and NAC:

172.0625 R NAC A02. No voice heard, but solid multiple hits. Any clue?

I also received multiple P25 hits on BP 170.7750. Not strong enough to get a NAC lock. Tropo was not too strong here today either.

That is the most new stuff I have received in a while...and what did the FBI change here in SE FL? Where did they go??

Albany, NY, area:

163.5375 hit on bandscope, no audio received yet
164.8875 N001 full time ENC
166.5125 N001 full time ENC
168.1750 hit on bandscope, no audio received yet
173.2500 hit on bandscope, no audio received yet

Bandscope hits are multiple transmissions.

The encrypted signals might be Secret Service. The President was due to visit the area when these started to light up. Could be a coincidence, however.

173.250 might not be federal as this is a shared band with news media.

The 173.250 frequency listed above is not federal. It is licensed to the Schuylerville-Victory Board of Water Management in Saratoga County for the monitoring and activation of water distribution systems. Occasionally it shows up as what sounds like a dead carrier here.

The 173.250 frequency listed above is not federal.
173.2-173.4 is not available to the Feds anywhere. I don't know the exact ranges, could be 4875, but you'll mostly find water dept telemetry or voice operations there (plus some of the older legacy stuff like movie production, etc).

I monitored "clear" car-to-car surveilance comms in my local city last week on 167.5625 (FBI-common). Was lucky to catch it in between the secure transmissions. It sounded like the units (running simplex) were getting too much distance between them, and just decided to switch to clear, in lieu of finding a secure repeater channel.

172.0625 nac a02

I heard two-way repeated encrypted traffic on 172.0625 with NAC A02 at S3 this morning. This is on a band opening. I was also getting the muted burps every couple of minutes (and still am...now at S2).

Who uses NAC A02?
