Does anyone know what the paging-like signals are on the federal bands? Right now on 418.1625 Im getting this signal which sounds somewhat like a POCSAG paging signal, but maybe a bit different. Is this something that can be decoded? I've also seen these on 162-174.
i have a local pager on 929.xxxx that splatters all over VHF and UHF... (never mind my local EDACS 800 trunk that does the same...) luckily most of the old 450/150mhz pagers are gone these days. I would say that it's not completely unheard of to have a pager on UHF in the federal bands - but most all of them I am aware of these days are down in VHF 16x.xxxx - and are usually associated with a VA hospital.

best thing to do when you have an interference thing like this is to verify the freq on another radio. I have a problem with 166.625 ... two guys chatting every day... but this is only on a single receiver (Airspy SDR) - and not copyable on any of my other radios... so I know it's an image or something.

YMMV

Ill have to see if I can hear it on two different devices at the same time next time I see it.

Today I got activity on 390.400, DMR, Color Code 2. Never seen that before, but I have seen 391.15 which was also DMR. Not sure what these are

I get images from the 450-470 range in the 390 area. I'd suspect that's where those signals really are (assuming you are hearing them on your 436).

They were heard on DSDPlus - but I have seen the same thing happen, so I think you may be right. I've got that frequency prioritized and so if I see it again, I'll see if I can get anything reliable from multiple sources. I'm thinking the 391.15 may be the same thing

DSD+ is a Software application.
What is your RF Source ??

I usually use the same antenna at home with DSDPlus and my BCD436HP, it's a telescopic dipole (from the thread I posted, if you're interested).
Otherwise, I use a DIamond RH789 on the BCD436HP

As has been hinted, since the RF source is the 436HP, it is likely an image

Best to see if you hear this also from another radio [hopefully a different make, but 1000% a different model]
or even an Amateur Radio that can RX out of band [not a CCR] :)

Sorry - I worded that confusingly - I meant my RF source is the dipole antenna, going straight to my SDR.

Okay, I could have sworn that I read a few posts from people in Florida indicating they've seen DEA using DMR, but I can't find them to save my life. Reason I'm asking is because I have been copying DMR encrypted, lining up with a definite DEA analog channel. The clear analog will Tx, then the DMR will respond (air-ground) - it seems to be way too perfect to be a coincidence.

Has anyone else seen or heard of this?

No DMR up here in the Panhandle. They are still using P25 VHF wide area repeater system along with simplex. ENC.

That makes me wonder if someone is hiding their comms, pirating a fed freq.

I dont know - the analog part of the conversation is clear - that part is definitely them, however Im too far to hear the ground portion. Its driving me totally nuts that I can't find this. I don't know where I would've gotten the idea from. The only thing I can think of is an image on that frequency, at the same time of the real comms, confusing the bcd436 and sdr.
The thing is though, this has shown up on both the 436 and rtl-sdr at the same time. I dont want to sound crazy and say that the posts were deleted, but man I swear I remember reading them!

I was in Midtown Atlanta today and picked up 169.55 NFM unknown users talking I didn't catch the NAC code or the radio user id number when I was scanning in search mode for Federal VHF.

It may be a long shot, but 169.55 is used in the Great Smoky Mtn National Park, and that repeater is located at one of the highest points east of the Mississippi River. That repeater has extremely good coverage.

Biloxi/Gulfport, MS unknown trunking system.

406.4750 ($110)
406.5625 ($110)
406.6625 ($110)
406.7625 ($110)

Only TGID received on any freq was "1". Security/police dispatch and patrol. Locations included "2-Tango-24" and "Bravo-2". License plates and driver's licenses were being run. One officer was waiting for a visitor from OIG. RIDs were all in the 5xxx range.

I am leaning towards this being the VA Hospital in Biloxi. The DB here lists their police as using 171.0125 ($293) but I found that to possibly be the VA Hospital Engineering channel in New Orleans; this freq was not received at all while in Biloxi for a week.

Oddly, all of the output freqs received were in the neighborhood of 1-2x5 RSSI. All of the traffic I received on the input freqs was 5x5. I was approximately 2 miles from this facility. All of the recorded traffic took place between 2000-0900 hours daily.

The radio was one of the TRX-1s running my UHF NAC search list, 400.000-420.000. This radio will reject 'hanging' on a control channel.
