Hi all,While scanning the fed bands yesterday i came across what appears to be postal inspectors in Boston on 409.9375 It seemed like the base was encripted but the mobils were in the clear p25.The transmissions sounded like this:72 to Boston bravo 5.This must be a wide area system as i am in central suffolk county NY using the back of set antenna on a 996XT the signal was full scale.Any thoughts? Max.

Hi twobeermax,

I live about 10 miles from Boston, I'll spin the dial over that way when I get home from work. I also have some contacts in the postal dept. I'll see if I can turn up any info.

$482 is a good guide that it's USPS.

As for Nationwide - Could be, altho I only have notes for this in
New England, NY/NJ/PA and WI

Monitoring Times had a list of color named channels a year or two ago.

It wasn't THAT long ago - I published this in the July 2010 Fed Files and these are all nationwide allocations:

Channel Name Frequency, P-25 NAC (Network Access Code)

EMRG RPTR 408.3375 MHz, N293
SPECIAL OPS 414.7625 MHz, N293 (simplex)
TACTICAL 415.0500 MHz, N293
BASE 414.7500 MHz, N482
RED 406.3375 MHz, N482
WHITE 407.7250 MHz, N482
BLUE 407.7750 MHz, N482
GREEN 407.1375 MHz, N482
BLACK 409.9375 MHz, N482
ABLE 414.7500 MHz, N483 (simplex)
BAKER 414.7500 MHz, N484 (simplex)
CHARLIE 414.7500 MHz, N485 (simplex)
DELTA 414.7500 MHz, N486 (simplex)
ECHO 414.7500 MHz, N487 (simplex)
FOXTROT 414.7500 MHz, N488 (simplex)
USPS 414.3625 MHz, CSQ (analog – simplex)

No, that is not a nationwide frequency. They use different frequency pairs in different places. I would program all of them. A frequency that is used as a repeater in one city may be simplex/tac in another.

The 414.3625/CSQ frequency is programmed into the Morgan (Manhattan, NYC) operations and maintenance HTs as I/O (interop). 406.3375 (RED) is active in NYC. Sometimes 407.1375 (GREEN) pops up around Staten Island as well.

I'm getting 409.9375 full scale here in new Bedford mass which is 50 miles due south of Boston. It is 100% encrypted from what I've been hearing so far.
